Mobil 1 oil filters

Autozone has Mobil 1 on sale, so I bought some 0W-40 and a Mobil 1 oil filter M1-108.
Has anyone used them? Reason I ask is because its smaller than the comparable Bosch (3300) or Purolator classic (what I'm currently using). And yes I did a search!! My closest AZ doesn't carry Bosch Distance+ filters anymore. I can't keep track of which filter is made by & rebranded by this or that company.

The guy at Napa didn't know how to give me the right filter, gave me a transmission filter instead of an engine oil filter. I'll use either save it for the next oil change or use in on the Impreza. Gotta love how Subies can share parts.

I would not use a 0 oil in these cars.

You should do what a lot of guy's do, buy your Rotella t6 from Walmart and buy a good filter.

Rotella is the go to oil for many enthusiasts. Those of us that are Jeepers use it as well. It just works.

I'm using OEM Mazda RX8 filters. Its closer than the subie dealer and gets me the same results as Subaru Black Filters.

Ive used the Mobil 1 filter. I believe it costs about 12 bucks IIRC. RX8 ones cost less and are larger than OEM subaru as well. Same or similar bypass pressures to boot.

That's what I usually do for the warmer months. If it weren't for sales, I'd use it all the time. Am currenty using Rotella T6 5w-40 and a Purolator classic. Was going to use a Napa Gold oil filter but they gave me the wrong one.

I ran Mobil 1 0w-40 last winter, just sent in my sample and should get the results soon. Compared to T6 5w-40, it runs smoother and gets up to temp quicker when its below freezing. That's good for me since I only have a 5 mile commute to work.

Paid $38 for 5 quarts oil and the filter was $13. That comes out to $5/qt, which is slightly cheaper than Rotella ($22/gal).

Moving this thread to the appropriate section in the forums as it pertains to a maintenance item.

I use M1-110, a taller filter.

We've had phenomenal luck with both Motul and Amsoil fluids. For regular OCI we use Subaru filters and for extended OCI we we the Amsoil filters.

5w30 for winter and stock cars
5w40 for summer and/or cars pushed hard

M1 0W-40 is a good oil and I've had good uoa results with the older SM version and more recently with the SN version.

Quote:

Mobil 1 0W-40 meets or exceeds the requirements of:
API SN/SM/SL/SJ
ACEA A3/B3, A3/B4

Mobil 1 0W-40 has the following builder approvals:
MB-Approval 229.3
MB-Approval 229.5
BMW LONGLIFE OIL 01
VW 502 00/505 00
PORSCHE A40
AVTOVAZ (LADA cars) AAE B6
Nissan GT-R
As to oil filters, just stick with OEM since it has the proper bypass spec. Otherwise, try the Wix/Napa 51772. It has the same bypass spec as OEM. Tell Autozone to keep the filter or donate it to someone that loves to cut up filters. The M1-108 does fit.

I use Shell Rotella T-5w-40 synthetic with the black OEM filter its a great combo. You can do an entire oil change for about $30 which you cant beat IMO

Posted my UOA from Blackstone in a new thread

Haven't read anything bad about M1 oil filters so I'll use it for this oil change and save the Napa Gold for the next one.

I thought the OEM Subaru filters are now made by Honeywell AKA Fram?

The blue ones are. I just installed my last black Tokyo Roki last week. Best price I could find on more was $25/per.

Someone posted something about the OEM Mazda RX-8 filter being a Tokyo Roki with suitable specs, but I've never seen any details of that filter (mainly bypass pressure).

We use the blue oem ones and they have been fine for all our customers for years. For extended changes we use the amsoil oil filters.
