This is my 500$ 2001 Legacy GT Daily driver.
Ive never been a fan of many subarus.. though most say they are a great car, ive always been into German cars. ive been through many vw's and bmws, and finally had an opportunity to pick up a nice little daily driver while i tear down my e30 for the winter. With the e30 Already at 540whp... We are shooting for a +750whp goal for next spring. Being said, i needed something to get me throught the winter.
A friend of mine whos been a long time subaru enthusiast, had this bad baby laying under a tree, in the dirt, in his yard for quite some time. I asked if it still ran, long story short.. we made a deal at 500$ Its got new driveshaft, brakes done recently, lower mileage engine (100k+-), and all the fluids. Its got some body issues, but thats never been an issue with me. Underbody looks halfway descent... aught to last me quite a few years.. i doubt ill be able to leave it alone. Even The first day i already started attacking it. Her name is Deadmau5 (i like the music, and the find went accordingly.) Here she was: http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...7_181856-1.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...7_181856-1.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_182007.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_181954.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_181945.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_181940.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_181912.jpg poor little guy must of ate too much styrofoam... :( http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_173555.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...817_173549.jpg |

Will Do! |
So i Took A few pictures of the inside and around before i got to work. It came from a family of smokers, so everything was yellow and disgusting, and needed a through cleaning.
http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...3_164147-1.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...823_163114.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...823_164139.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...823_163016.jpghttp://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_140315.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...3_170521-1.jpg |
And then the chaos began... i decided the entire thing needed a wash, down to the bare metal.. old insulation removed, every panel pulled, and went on the hunt in the junkyards for replacements for broken parts and missing pieces.
http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...3_171416-1.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...3_171412-1.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_014518.jpg Brought everything upstairs, filled my tub with soapy bleach water, and started scrubbing away!! http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...823_221815.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...823_215843.jpg |
I had plenty of leftover plaid from the e30 trunk and parts, so i fabricated a few nifty replacements of my own!
http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_140315.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_155928.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...9_201705-1.jpg i wanted to offset the plaid on the ceiling, so i instead used plain black headliner fabric for the sunroof panel.. http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...6_153333-1.jpg I also had an awesome indash dvd/gps player sitting around, so that went in... I ran a 20a fused power wire for it directly from the battery, and grounded it with a short 16ga. wire close by for maximum power and minimum distortion. Ran all new 16ga. speaker wire to each individual door speaker, upgraded to 6.5'' Alpine type S(up front) and custom fit Boston acoustic 5x7 in the rears!.. then, I also ran concealed 2ga. power wires for an amp to the trunk (subwoofer later), and concealed the amp antenna, and installed my boot and knob i made! I intend on putting a subtle JL 500/1 mono amp and perhaps a 10'' JL w6 later on. http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...1_153407-1.jpg |
Started to paint all the lighter colored grey pieces different types of semi flat, trim paint, and textured black and had outstanding results! ( i had painted MANY MANY more interior pieces including overlaying the woodgrain which i was not a big fan of, i just didnt happen to find the time to take pictures of that in the process.. )
http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...825_151553.jpg here she is stripped clean of everything besides the dash. http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...825_162201.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...825_162208.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...825_162236.jpg the carpet was absolutely disgusting, so i had to find a replacement. luckily i found a halfway descent one at the junkyard, that i quickly vaccumed for this picture!... after i put it in the car, i shampoo'd it to good as new, not a single spot on it! http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...825_162100.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...5_171649-1.jpg |
wow, very nicely done, looks professional

Heres the engine bay all rough and dirty, we will steam clean this and start to replace alot of this crap, with fresh parts, new bolts, and plenty of sandblasted fun!
http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_183747.jpg http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_183754.jpg i think im going to do the Trunk portion over..Id like to find a trunk lid like mine, without a spoiler, anybody need a wing trunk lid theyd like to straight trade? im likely going to sand down the oem raised letters on the tail lights and wetsand them completely, and do them all red like i did my BMW... what do you guys think? http://i1071.photobucket.com/albums/...824_183827.jpg |

The headlights really started to bother me... ive been contemplating JDM hids, retrofits, and drop-in HIDs with modified insides. So what i decided for the time-being, was to crack them open, paint up a few pieces, seal them up, adjust the angle, drop in 4300k HIDS, and wetsand and buff them. and dont worry, im a headlighting guru, the beam pattern has been aligned correctly as to not blind oncoming traffic and pedestrians. (i only got one side complete today, had to pack up early unfortunately)

Started to notice even after replacing the fuel filter, there was a very low idle, come to find out, all of the grounds were crummy, even worse, i didnt know that the factory grounding wires were cheesy little braided bands! so i replaced them all with some grounding kits i had left over from old VW's, sanded down the factory locations on the frames, clipping on new ring connectors, and put new terminals on the battery. i also shortened quite a few of the factory grounds just for better self satisfaction, no more dim lights when the ac fan comes on, and a super strong idle!
