what you think???

there was a minor learning curve but i think they came out sweet.

I used smoke window film from home depot. I saw some other post of someone doing it like this but I can find who it was.

Ignore the complimentary dirt.:p

Thanks!! these are the materials I used at the bottom of the post. all found in the interior window section in home depot. :P

Basically, I cut a piece of the film larger than the tail like sprayed the tail light with the stuff in the instillation package. (make sure the tail light is pretty when so it squeegees the air bubbles out nicely) applied the film and smoothed out the bubbles and trimmed it to about 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch away form the light edge. then i rolled the edges and used the plastic tool to stuff it tight into the seam so it wouldn't just peal off . (if you spray where you are trying to tuck it into the seam it stuffs a little easier but loosens the grip until it evaporates.) This was the hardest part because some of the tail lights seams were tighter than others so be careful not to push to hard on it for it will break the film.. happened a couple times but its barely noticeable. then i used the packaged blade to trim it to the line between the red lens and the clear lens. (I think it looks sharp like that) then i used gorilla tape with the trunk open to pull the film tight into the trunk area because the film doesn't like to stick to the textured surface in the trunk gap. (this looks chincy too but its hardly noticeable.) Then i repeated the step for the rest of the lights.. It took 3 attempts on the first light to find the best method but that's all in the fun.

Let me know how things go!!

Window tint is next on my list.

question. How did you do your tail lights? similar method or did you use a different product?? or have it done professionally?

speedy signs...

...in wheaton, md...or you can goto sign-o-rama...get OPTICAL clear vinyl...whatever tint percentage you want...it's thin - plyable - clear (not smoked or blurry) - very translucent when dry!

clean surface with alcohol...wet tail light and vinyl...apply...squeegee...custom cut with sharp sharp sharp hobby type razor pen...squeegee...heatgun...razor trimming if needed...DONE!!!

Thats exactly what i want!! I gotta find a place near buffalo that has that kind of stuff. The product is called "optical clear vinyl" ?

I hope i can find some. it seems a lot easier than what i did :P I forgot to mention the cleaning part thought of the lens in my installation post.
Its a very important step to have a clean lens!

i was going to use candy paint to do this mod but this seems more safer. and can change back if needed.
good call crazy ken.

CRAZY KEN 09-10-2012 10:57 AM

moshated...

...EXACTLY...if I want to tint it lighter - darker - go back to stock ...I just peel off and redo!

;)

I used this as a reference video...the way he does the headlights is the same way for the taillights......you can buy from them too if you can't find a store!!!

judgenot 10-26-2012 11:04 PM

can i see a full rear photo from directly behind?

s2baru 10-26-2012 11:30 PM

I'm gonna plan on this but remove the tails to do it so I get the edges perfect.
