CEL in 2012 legacy gt.....

Another problem with my legacy gt... The car threw a CEL last night...went to autozone to pull the code...P050A, cold start idle control valve....just dropped the car off at subaru service. Hope it's nothing serious.

Oh also, my auto headlights stopped working a few months back...

Not a good start to subaru ownership.

Well - the auto headlights issue is pretty common (had that issue myself, and if you search, there are others who had the same thing - seems that the sensor has a high infant mortality rate) - it's generally just the sensor on the dash by the passenger side speaker - they replace it and you are good to go.

Not sure what P050A involves - it's "Cold Start Idle Air Control System Performance" the description in the service manual is "When cold, the abnormality in the control of target engine speed increase is detected" - they check all sorts of things (leaks, damaged harnesses, various sensor outputs, etc.) - essentially, the idle speed is something other than what it's supposed to be, and there are a bunch of potential culprits.

Got a call at the dealer....auto headlights are fixed...and they dismissed the cel as a "glitch".....let's see what happens....

sounds like your drove your car too quickly without letting it warm up

rpmk104 07-30-2012 04:43 PM

Let's hope that is it....hope it's not some electrical issue tripping off the cel

what elevation are you at? Wonder if cold start high idle, running rich, but high pressure wiht with a lack of air caused some wierd condition for an instant.

I had a DOA automatic light sensor too on my 2012 GT when I took delivery. Never even worked once. Dealer is replacing it tomorrow after diagnosing it as a bad sensor last week. I got very used to automatic lights with my last car and it has caught me out a few times.

funny, my auto lights went out within a month of ownership of my LGT... waiting till I have a bit of time to take it in.... no biggie - as I hate auto lights and never really use it like that - I just turn it on as its the last click then turn it off.... now I got to go to the auto click then one click back.
