Cobb Tune + CBE + TMIC = Whoa!

Here is the layout - 2012 LGT. I started with the '93 map from Cobb on the AP - added the Invidia 300 (yes it "quiets down a bit" after about a month). But wanted more as there was a definite loss on the top end. I ordered a coated TMIC from RacerX, called up Cobb Tuning in Plano to set up a time to REALLY tune it. This past Wednesday I went. Things I gathered from the tuners:

1. no need for upgraded fuel pump or injectors - mine was perfectly fine for what I was about to do.

2. no need for a DP either... our stock one was fine unless I was going big like upgrading the turbo to an 18G then I'd also have to add all the things from #1 - no point as I wanted a grocery getter that could pull its balls and slap someone if needed - I have said this before on their comment - the DPs out just haven't really been tested yet for the 11-12s so they reserve comment.

3. They were very impressed with the RacerX TMIC. It fit perfectly, well made, and, as you will see, very responsible for the power.

4. Lastly, I will probably be needing an upgraded clutch soon

Here is my tune: Highlights - 278whp with 334 lbs of TORQUE! downshifting is now not necessary! NOW, I have my sleeper.

Nice gains with the stock DP!

Props to you sir! Torque is lovely isnt it? Running the tmic myself and the shop I had install it was impressed by what our 5thgens are pumping out. I went with a catless DP, but I'm curious as to what will happen once you go that route.

Nice numbers, can we get a TMIC GB going?

I hate to spend more money already but I'd probably be in.

Congrats. Looks like the tmic might indeed be a bottleneck on the fifth gen. My butt dyno tells me the car is pulling a lot harder up top

Im taking the same path--stock downpipe. Looking forward to finishing my e-tune and getting her on the dyno.

There was already a group buy was to make them ...

So TMIC + axlebacks is the quick path improved overall performance across the RPM range. This combo delivers more performance for about the same price as TBE. This may be the preferred initial improvement path for 5th gens on a budget.

Well done. This is a perfect example of the 5th gen being different than the 4th/WRX setup. The axlebacks are more restrictive than the TMIC. The TMIC is more restrictive than the DP. The turbo is more restrictive than the DP....

Our intake is perfect already... Subaru really did a good job

That looks like some great results. Did you have any graphs previous to the TMIC? I'm just curious to see deltas.

islandborn 07-02-2012 03:43 PM

No pregraphs... Sorry! One thing to note - vacuum lines might pop off! But nothing a clamp can't fix. Ahaha

Lol, yeah. I had a couple that needed hose clamps or zipties.

Good stuff!

Excuse my ignorance but what arr the benefits of getting a TMIC. I had to look up the meaning of the acronym first ;P

Would it be worth getting with Stage 1? Stage2? Stage 2 + Pro Tune?

Thank you

M
