GROUP BUY: Vacuum leak tester

A little more than a week ago I decided to throw together a tool to test my car for vacuum leaks. Here is the thread in which I described what was made:

The list of parts is there, but I've also decided to make a bunch in case people want to buy one pre-made. My air compressor has a built in regulator, but just in case I will be making two different flavors: one without a regulator and one with an attached regulator. I see this as an invaluable tool that I keep in my car at all times, and it can be used on pretty much any car. It will come ready to be attached to a compressor via a quick detach plug unless otherwise specified.

Without regulator: $25 shipped to lower 48
With regulator: $30 shipped to lower 48

Who's in?

With regulator:
1. Turkeylord
2. Squiden
3. chutrain

regulator includes gauge?

MasAyinde 06-28-2012 06:50 AM

Yes indeed. It needs to since you really shouldn't be putting more than 12-15 psi through the turbo inlet. It was never meant to hold boost. I believe that most, if not all, air compressors come with a regulator so in most cases just the ball valve would be needed, but I'll offer a regulator in case anyone really wants one on there.

Squiden 06-28-2012 07:15 PM

Same! $30 is a steal for as many times as I've had to pay for tracking down a leak!

chutrain 06-28-2012 11:45 PM

Might as well get one as well. Put me down for a regulator version.

Bump for a useful tool! Built my own with a regulator at a similar cost between 25-30 bucks, so you are getting this for practically the cost of parts!

MasAyinde, those regs do not work in the reverse direction according to my research. Output is female and input is male. I ran into this problem using that reg when I built mine. Had to buy a male/male and female/female adapter to flip it 180. Just wanted to clear that up with you. I edited my post in your other thread as well. With this extra length it is a tight fit, and I would recommend removal of the airbox when using it to get proper clearance for the hose.

If it does in fact let air through in the reverse direction, the gauge reading will be input pressure from the compressor rather than output going into the intake. I opted to flip it 180 without testing to see if it will work as is, because I wanted to be able to see what psi was going into the car intake.

Thanks for the info, all compressors have regulators so I don't know why people are ordering ones with regulators; I have just the ball valve. I'll figure something out.

dr_sharp 07-01-2012 05:50 AM

I assume its because not all of us have compressos, but rather shop air at work.
