The Legacy 2.5GT is officially dead..

Subaru made the statement ahead of the N.Y Autoshow.
The 2.5 GT is a no go for 2013.
What are your feelings about it...
I personnally think that the car was DOA from the start. Yes it was a good car but in this segment it had not enough power ( The 3.6R already makes 256hp ) and the lack of 6 speed auto shifter didn't help.

I hope that Subaru will bring it back in the near future with the right stuff: a 300hp STI engine along with an automatic transmission.

Seriously?

Because a $32,000 LGT didn't sell, but an STi engined automatic transmission Legacy with a resulting price increase would sell?

It's sad to see a niche car like this go.

It doesn't necessarily mean the LGT is dead. It's just gonna hibernate for a year, maybe.

I don't think price was the problem with the GT, I think the lack of power was. Most people aren't into modding their cars and the premium over the 3.6r for only 9hp more wasn't worth it.

People will pay for the exclusivity, but it needs to have more than just the GT badge...

I recently bought a 2011 2.5i Premium. I would have bought the GT if it had offered a 6 speed auto shifter. Neither my wife nor I have a desire to manually shift all day long in heavy traffic.

Why wasn't the 3.6R an option for you?

We wanted the smaller engine. Have had Subarus for 10 years, we like that 2.5i engine. It works for us.

I was wondering the same thing.

About Manual Shifting: When YOU get to be 75 you'll know what I mean. :)

MatsuDano 03-29-2012 10:27 AM

Does this mean aftermarket support for the 3.0R/3.6R will explode?

That makes no sense.

You would have got a turbo 4 if it had an auto. But you had no interest in the H6 that was available with an auto. Because you wanted a smaller engine.

And, I was told by the Dealer that the H6 did not have the Auto/Manual Shift option. Only Auto. To this day I don't know if he was correct.

No more LGT...

Baby Jesus cry now...

Having a manual only is probably what killed the GT. Personally, I like that my kids / wife never ask to borrow my car because they don't want to / can't shift themselves.
