WTB: 2005 Legacy GT Engine
Just got word that my turbo grenaded and destroyed my engine. Anyone have an engine lying around or know where I could get a good deal on one? The shop that I took it to told me that it would be $7.5k minimum to fix it on used parts and ~$14k on new. That just seemed a little high....
HELP!!!! |
This thread, http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...ip-181176.html , has all the local shops. Each one will be able to do a rebuild for you. You can get a brand new short block from Subaru for ~$1600 (maybe less).
$14k for a new engine? you can buy a cosworth or crawford long block for that kind of money. Think Ken Block gymkhana type engine. Heck, you could buy "Lady in Red" ready to go for $16k - http://legacygt.com/forums/showthrea...ed-180637.html |
its $4500 parts and labor to rebuild your motor at r&h garage. you can also buy a brand new sti block for $1900.
|
What shop did you talk to? I'd like to avoid them. FYI, I have 35 miles on a "new" engine and it was no were near that new price you have listed.

I JUST had mine replaced at http://r-hgarage.com/ and loved their service and work. Warrantied 2yrs, 24k miles, fast and timely service all for $5000 even along with a full fluid service. Tell then Tony and legacyssturbofreak sent you. |
What that shop is telling you is that they dont know how to do the work and dont want to do the work. Run as fast as possible and never go back to that shop under ANY circumstances. $7000. $14,000. How f--king stupid did they think you were?:spin: Like you could not go on the internet and join a forum and ask? SCREW THOSE GUYS! RUN!

GAHHHHH!!! You gotta be kidding me! Ok well still looking for one if anyone knows where I could find a complete engine w/ turbo. Or if you know who I should be talking to. The few parts places that I've seen have only had up to 2004 legacy parts and no 2005 Legacy engine components |
I think it's cheaper just to rebuild it. Yet that's just my opinion. Go talk to hunter at R&H to see what he recommends you to do.

Outback Automotive in Auburn had 3 engines on pallets when I stopped by last night. And 6 more blocks waiting for cars. Lastly, someone is getting a new block with a KillerB pan...nice...have the same pan.
A gt sedan was in the back - looks like engine work? |
