Wow, did not see that coming :spin::spin: |
Neither did I until turn 3 at willow springs! Did you know you can blow a corner, run off track, and a 20mph direct hit laterally, entirely into your front right wheel with not a scratch on the bodywork can total your car? Me neither! Massive frame, subframe, and suspension damage, estimated at 15-17k to fix when I braked into turn 3 just a little too late, and greasy overly hot tires snapped away like hitting ice with no warning, no chance to correct so I straightened her out to the run off, stomped the brakes and hoped for the best. I had such little traction off track that I probably didn't scrub off more than 5mph before impact. Thank god I got most of my braking from 100 to 30 done before I turned in and the car didn't. After the hit, which felt like I was broadsiding the dirt embankment with the entire right side or my car, I was spun back across the track, sliding sideways over the curb onto the track and then over the candy striping on the other side which had me airborne for split second, I finally came to rest on now the inside of turn 3 off track. I expected to see the entire right side of my car smashed in but it was untouched. My front right tire was blown off the bead but the wheel didn't break or bend (primary point of impact). My front left bent and sheered off a lug, snapped the strut in half, snapped the subframe mount and basically demolished the chassis in that area of the car. At the time, the strut was still together and I was able to drive 200yds in the rocks and dirt to get back to the pits amazingly. But after a 90mi tow back to LA and the car was put up on the lift I could see it was game over. I was shocked. I thought new wheels, one strut, and a new front bumper (hardly damaged and not by impact, by the ground tearing up the underside of my car), 5k at the most I figured. Well....that's what I got for my trade .
So yes its a shame but im just glad im not hurt and I didn't hit anyone else. I was running advanced group and had just passed several cars and thankfully no one hit me and vice versa. Btw, the bilsteins changed the game entirely, lap times plummeted, probably too much for street tires to take with track pads and braking later...and later...and later as the day went on. All ridiculous money wasted aside, I still had a great time overtaking vettes, s2000's, bimmers, a c63amg, and yes, some sti's too. |
WOW, sooo sad, so sorry to here. Why not another LGT? I am guessing, availability??
|
Yikes! Glad to read you're ok and the subie ended its career a road warrior. Car absorbed the impact(s) as designed. $5k is awful for a trade. Guessing you beautiful CBE was trashed as well.

The trade was basically calculated as lease buyout (19k) less cost to repair, left me with 5k. Better than nothing I guess |
Wow. Sorry to hear about this DoubleN. Glad you are ok.

I hear you. After dropping over 10k in my outback xt I decided to get a car that would kill that bug. Too bad I have the suspension and looks bug now. |
So sorry to hear this DoubleN, you were a pioneer for the LGT community. I am glad you are ok, it's a shame your GT took such an unfortunate hit, it will surely be missed.
Provided you have everything and the AccessPort is in decent shape, which I would assume given your attention to detail and modifications, I would like to grab the AP off of you. I'm sending you a PM right now, and am waiting for pictures of the front/back and serial number of the AP before anything progresses. I was disheartened when I saw the creator of this thread, but I would like to support you and keep these parts within the family, you have a PM. |
Thanks Dr. P, you have a PM
|
Good to hear that you are ok. I wished I could have grabbed that Blistein suspension off of you, oh well. Glad to hear that you stayed in the family with your new trade-in.
