Install Write up

Install on the Comp Clutch.

Just finished the recommended break in interval. I will show you the clutch, install and give my initial impression.

Clutch arrived packaged like all other clutched I have received. Nothing fancy, but it does the job. They do include a lot of foam, so there is not going to be any shipping damage.

Product installed is a Segmented Kevlar Clutch. Rated to 500ftlbs AWT. So this should hold the e-85 eating VF-39 build that ate the Exedy Satge1 Clutch and Flywheel.

Everything required is in the package. Clutch Disc, Pressure Plate, Throw-out Bearing, Alignment tool, new Pressure Plate bolts, Flywheel, Bearing for Flywheel.

My initial inspection revealed a very beefy, well built clutch and flywheel.

The 5MT on the lift. This is LALGT's car. Stage1 Exedy Clutch previously installed.

After dropping the tranny, we find a very worn out TOB. It has a nice deep groove going through the center of the surface. Inspection of the snout reveals a clean and undamaged housing. Whew.

The pressure plate is a nice shade of blue. So is the clutch disc and the flywheel. Guess it was hot, dry and slipping.

For the amount of leg pressure it took to engage the clutch and the lack of any feedback it gave, you would have thought it was a monster clutch. All I fond was a burnt up clutch that I zero respect for at this point.

Comparing the Comp Clutch TOB and Exedy TOB side by side I se a huge difference. Comp is sealed, not open like the Exedy. It also has a fabricated bracket, not a bent piece of bar stock. Nice tig welds. The bearing itself is thicker and basically larger. It appears far more heavy duty. Me likes.

New, thicker TOB fits like a champ. No issues installing it.

New Flywheel fits great.
Disc slides right on and alignment tool works perfect.
Pressure plate is on and torqued. Time to slide her all back together and test it out.

Fresh Extra-S in and ready to go.

So, Start her up and all is well. Just moving the car off the lift I immediately notice a huge improvement in pedal feel and engagement. Much lighter and I can actually feel the engagement point and hold it. Moving the car with just the clutch. Could not do that before.

Been driving the car lightly for 4 days now. Seems pedal and engagement are settled in. Still very nice compared to before. Not a lot of change really. Clutch engages a few inches off floor. Not somewhere in the firewall like before. Flywheel does have deceleration chatter. But less than before. Not as offensive, but still there. This I expected. The fact that it is less is nice.

Clutch reminds me a lot of an ACT. Pedal is not as light as a Clutchmaster, but not as heavy as an ACT HD Xtreme. So, much like a standard ACT. Engagement is precise and very immediate (but about 3 inches off floor). Not any slipping this Kevlar clutch. It grabs and goes. Tested in extended LA traffic and pedal is light enough to not fatigue the leg too much. You can up-shift and down-shift by depressing the clutch about 50% with no issues, just like a stock clutch. Deff holds the power.

For the price, I think we have a huge winner.
