2010-11 Outback rear view camera system in 5th gen Legacy
Has anyone installed the back-up camera from the Outback (where the screen is in the rear-view mirror) on the 5th gen Legacy?
I would possibly like to go this route since i have the HK w/o Navi. Hope the mirror doesn't look abnormally huge. |
Can anyone get me that mirror for a good deal?
|
I want this also, my friend has this in his tacoma and I think i'd be useful.
|
Bump for this idea, I want to make this happen.

Same here. I don't see why it can't be done. Below is the excerpt from cars101.com for the 2011 Outback
About the optional auto dimming rear view mirror with back-up camera (part of moonroof pkg). By Gentex Co. The RCD (rear camera display) mirror contains a liquid crystal display (LCD) that works with a video camera mounted at the rear of the vehicle to provide a view directly behind the vehicle while backing up. When the vehicle is shifted into "reverse," a display appears automatically through the auto-dimming mirror's reflective surface. The display disappears when the vehicle is shifted into any other gear, a capability that is made possible utilizing Gentex's "transflective" coating and lighting techniques, which result in a bright, high-resolution color image. The RCD mirror is equipped with a compass that utilizes Gentex's proprietary Z-Nav(R) technology, a highly-accurate sensor that determines the vehicle's directional heading, and universal garage door opener as part of the popular Power Moonroof Package. Vehicles equipped with a navigation system feature a Gentex mirror with compass and garage door opener. |
The Gentex mirror is not cheap. For a 3.5" screen, homelink, autodimming, and compass, its $800. For just the 2.5" inch with autodimming, its $400. Those are eBay prices.
Look up "gentex camera" in eBay. |

Would most back-up camera rear view mirrors be compatible with the Subaru lens? Not sure if it matters.
|
Don't think it matters. You'd only have a lens installed already if it came in the car from the factory.

Not cam lock. Unscrew the Torx screw and slide the mirror up. Took me longer to find the right Torx screwdriver.

Backup cameras will be federally mandated in all 2012 model year cars.
