Another Very Sano Replacement for Engine Cover Fasteners

Recommended Posts

Like many of you, I got tired of dealing with the poppits on the engine cover.

I bought the following for a good looking easy on/easy off solution:

4 1/4" easy nuts

4 black fiber washers

4 1"x1/4" (or #14) black chromate phillips sheet metal screws.

You just slide the easy nuts over the tabs with the holes for the poppits.

Replace cover and fasten with screws and washers. Done.

Hahaha, brilliant. At our SoCal meet, I made sure to check out everyones engine bay for missing pop-its and lo behold everybody was missing at least 1!

That's cuz you jacked one from each car and replaced all the ones you were missing!!!!

BANNED FROM THE TIKI FORUM.

Now you tell me.

I made the mistake of asking the dealer for them. I was missing two and the other two were busted and only pretending to do their job.

Charged me $11+change.

Hmmm - I wonder if this would work for the silly popits holding the under-tray cover for the oil filter. I stripped those silly plastic screw heads on the 1st oil change...

The student becomes the teacher. Think I'll do this myself. I guess you could slip the easynuts over the main body tray.

Thanks for the post! I was down to 1 holding the engine cover on, and it made closing the hood challenging at times. Home Depot & Lowe's both let me down for black machine screws, so I'm rocking bright silver ones, but I'll keep my eyes open at other hardware stores.

Nice did this "mod" today!

Just added a metal washer and grage 5 hardware

Need to come up for a solution for the intake pop its

Grade 5 is a bit overkill :) I used the fiber washers because the screws get real hot.

Both stores sell black spray paint though.

See what I'm saying?

Just to make a few people's lives easier, what are referred to as "easy nuts" here are usually called "clip-on nuts" in most catalogs.

Also these things are awesome for the trash can/cutting board mud flaps.
