How to BLACK OUT the headlight

Recommended Posts

first, it's exactly same as clearing the headlight

here's the link to clearin the headlight

http://www.legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3737

second, when the headlight is disassembled, you wanna sand (400 sand paper) the dark grey paint and chrome on the housin. (I "recommend sanding it but it's such a PITA!!! you don't have to tho)

third, use wet paper towel or cloth to wipe off the paint dust on the housing.. and dry it with dry cloth

fourth, TAPE IT!! tape the chrome circular thing that makes our projector look pimp. also tape the reflector. if you don't tape the reflector, your turn signal won't be bright at all and cops don't like that. (see the pic, you wanna tape those 2 things..once you are done with tapin them, they should be all covered with tape)

fifth, use primer paint! i got this spray primer paint can from schuck's. i used flat black. if you want glossy look, go with semi-flat or gloss. I sprayed 2 layers. once it's all dry, spray it one more layer!

sixth, when its all dry, take the tape off and you put the whole headlights back together

DONE

sorry for the bad "how to"

it's 2 in the mourning and i'm hella tired

want to do mine??? :D I'm chicken

If you're up for it (Since i gotta go pick up my wrench anyways) -- i can bring my spare headlight up there and we can both try it out without F'ing up a real headlight first.

( i kept my headlight after the dealer gave me a new one for wrecking my car... the light is fine except for one scratch)

Precise-yes. Only the circlular chrome lens surround was taped (masking). The mirror behind the driving lights is part of the other assembly so it is not an issue for overspray.

The blinkers are severely diminished in brightness, but the headlights remain the same brightness.

GORGEOUS team23!!! What do you think it would look like on a Garnet Red car? You've got the whole White/Black thing going on with the grill already and all, I just got 100% stock...

By noon tomorrow, we should know exactly what it will look like on red :D

As much as I want to finish tonight, I think I'm going to turn in and get back at it in the morning. But so far, it looks hot! However, 2 coats wasn't enough, so i had to re-mask the turn signal reflectors and re-spray. That sucked, but dammit, if this isn't worth doing right, it wasn't worth doing at all. And I've spent to much time already to not do it right!

Ok, the job is done. Raining out right now, so I'll get pics later. It does look sweet on red. I also re-used the stock amber bulbs, but wanted silver bulbs. I'm thinking that they will stay, because as far as I can tell, you need to take the damn bumper off to change the turn signals!

Any better way to get at those?

Weather has been crap all day, so this is the best I could do for pics. Hell I was afraid to even take the car out long enough to take pics.

Sorry I couldn't shoot in ambient light. I'll try to get more later.

My thought is the lighter the color, the better it will look. My guess is it has the most visual impact on White, Silver, and Red. Followed by Atlantic Blue, Regal Blue, and finally least on Black.
