Dereky
So i have smoke rolling out in every direction under the hood , found it to be from a hose going from the motor to who knows where. It goes right between the exaust & the motor. What is that rubber oil line for
lingling1337
You're going to have be much more specific in every way.

Dereky
Theirs a hose from the bottom of the motor that starts out metal then goes to rubber with a clamp. Up towards the turbo, it blew out and is spitting oil everywhere. What is the least amount of things I have to remove to get to it. It's buried pretty good by the motor, turbo, exaust, and everything else. Thanks for any help
lingling1337
Sounds like your oil return line... yes that will be a PITA to get back on especially if you replace the clamp with something better (worm gear or the like) like you should. No way you'll do it with everything put together so I would take off the up pipe and see if you can get to it that way. On the other hand... maybe just take it to a shop. Dereky
So I took it all apart & it is the return line that blew, but the bad news is the turbo fell apart when it ran out of oil. So new turbo too
Gex
Probably a new motor if the turbo blew apart and spewed chunks of fun in your oil system. Check the pan.
Dereky
What really, when a turbo goes it smokes the motor too
Gex
It most certainly can if it blew apart. Check the pan for metal might just need to flush the system. Keep in mind we know nothing about your car or what state it is in. All we have are a few poorly stated questions and that your turbo blew up when the oil return line failed . Dereky
Well the impeller is 95 % their and mangled, but totally snapped in half. So flush the system u mean change oil & filter. And cross my fingers
Dereky
About the car it's a 05 legacy gt. 102 k only had it for three months. Started to smell oil after driving a long distance a month ago, but couldn't see anything anywhere & no oil on the garage floor. And then last Friday my friend borrowed it and drove it back with smoke boiling out from the hood & out the pipe. Found a rubber line that blew apart so that was prob the oil leak I've been smelling for a couple weeks that gave out. But now the turbo blew up cuz that line gave out I guess
Gex
This forum needs a "So my turbo blew up where to start now sticky". Is the car stock? You smelt burning oil for "weeks" and did nothing? Flushing the system implies putting pressure through it. Best leave that to a specialist. Do a compression check. If the line failed ,was it recently replaced? Have you checked the banjo filter in the line? It probably clogged. Do you still have the cat in the uppipe? An 05 at 102k that has been beat on and run low on oil will probably be shit. So many questions that need answers to ediagnose a failed motor.
Dereky
So it's my only car & have a loan on it, so should I get a new turbo , change the banjo filter, replace the return line and then flush the system
Max Capacity
Your new here so we'll try and be easy on you. You should get a catless up pipe, down pipe of choice, (I have an Invidia up/dp). I went with a vf52 turbo which is the newer turbo Subaru uses. You'll need to get the car tuned before you drive it hard, you can start the engine with the vf52, just keep it out any higher boost. You'll need to make sure the oil system is clean, no metal. Have the oil pan pulled and oil cooler and inspected. Remove the filter in the banjo bolt on the back of the passenger side head. Leave it out. Make a list of the things we're telling you to do. check off the things as they get done. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs. (SOLD). CHECK your oil, these cars use it. Engine Build - Click Here
Dereky
Ok , so my plan is to remove the banjo filter, drop the pan & clean it, check the oil cooler, replace oil return line that started this, replace turbo, flush the oil system, knock the cat out of the up pipe. Then that will do it
Moderators BarManBean Posted May 1, 2013 Moderators Share Posted May 1, 2013 If you find metal shavings in your oil pan / cooler you need to replace the shortblock. If you don't do this, do so at your own risk. You could be fine or you could be right back where you are now in 3 months (minus any cost incurred during this process and whatever new turbo you chose to install).
