2.5i doing "high numbers" & remote starter issue

Recommended Posts

So I took my car to the dealership and left it last week because when it's cold the car makes a loud banging noise when its about to go into 2nd gear. Once its warmed up, its fine.

Now after a week and a half of tests he said there was a problem with the 1st & 3rd gear. Today he called me to ask me he needs to go take apart the transmission I say fine. At the end of the day he calls me and tells me we have a big problem. The car is doing "high numbers". He needs to take out the remote start module and do another test. I explain to him I never had that installed and it was probably the first owner. I've been using the key since the day I got it.

Right now it seems to be a cop out to not pay for this to get fixed. I have the gold warranty until May. He said SOA has the call on this.

Can anyone tell me what does it mean when a car is doing high numbers? I couldn't ask because I was on the train and about to go underground.

What kind of damage can a remote start module honestly do ? I figure I could blame this on the Subaru dealership who sold me the car if that's really the problem? How would of I possibly would of known that was in there?

The car only has 62k on it. I just finish doing the 60k maintenance with them.

It depends on if the remote starter is OEM or not. I know some subies had the remote starter module as a factory or dealer installed option.

If it is an aftermarket unit, then that could effectively void your warranty since the warranty only covers the OEM and OEM installed items. I'm not sure how they would roll it together to say that that unit caused an issue with your trans, but I'm sure that they could if they tried hard twist it to say that it put some kind of stress on the trans.

I would definitely try to put it back on the dealer that sold it to you, but I'm sure that they had some small print to cover themselves on it. Was it sold as a Subaru CPO car?

I'm 90% sure it was.

EDIT: Just found the paperwork. Yes it was.

If it's OEM as in the Subaru Unit, then you should be covered under your extended warranty if you have the bumper to bumper Subaru extended warranty.

No it's after market. I guess i'll wait to see what he says tomorrow. I've

brought it here a couple times and never left it with a remote starter. I have the Subaru gold plus warranty.

I don't see how they would of expected me to know it was on there. I guess they'll just say im lying.

From SOA's point of view, it doesn't matter who put it on, their warranty covers the OEM parts and any damage done by non-oem parts would exclude them from repairing it for you under warranty. Now the fact that the original dealer didn't disclose this to you at the time of purchase could be sticking point between you and the original selling used car dealer. They may or may not have even known that this was installed on the car when they sold it to you.

Please keep us posted on this and how it shakes out.
