Jimblaz
Is there anything I should do to my isc coilovers to protect them in the upcoming winter months here in Idaho??
compsurge
You could probably wax or grease the surface of them. Wash them after driving through salt roads. VWVortex mentions spraying coilovers with clear coat. Best one yet: KY warming lubricant. IDK. They probably won't last much more than 5 years of normal use anyway. Gmachine
Swap them out, unless of course you no longer have the stock stuff.
DeleriousZ
If you haven't already, anti-seize the shit out of everything, all of the hardware you can, especially the collars and threaded bodies of the coilovers to make sure nothing seizes up. IIRC you can also get 'coil socks' which fit over the spring part of the coilover and protects the spring and damper from all the nasty parts of winter. danny boy
How long have you had them? How are they set? Stock prior to these? Love them? So many questions....
Jimblaz
How long have you had them? How are they set? Stock prior to these? Love them? So many questions.... I've had them since this spring. I'm fairly low on them. About a fingers width between tire and wheel well. Before the coils I had eibach springs on my stock struts. Struts started leaking so I went for these ISC coils. I like them yes. They can be a bit harsh on certain roads but that's to be expected I guess. They work great in the corners. I also have f & r sways on too
robitrice
clean up real good before the roads get crazy and try these out. http://www.gearheadsonline.ca/shop/product.php?productid=141&cat=60&page=
Stevedorez
what's the difference between oil and gas COs? sounds like oil and gas company... heard that oil COs do not bear winter well
scoobyscoodle
Best bet for you people with harsh winters is to swap to stock stuff or struts/springs for winter. If that is not an option, clean them thoroughly, and as said above, anti-sieze, anti-sieze, anti-sieze. Coat everything threaded. Also try to spray the salt off from time to time. xero287
I'm thinking about getting these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-AFCO-Coilover-Shock-Cover-14-Long-Use-with-2-5-8-Diameter-Springs-/380479454821?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item589657be65&vxp=mtr
scoobyscoodle
I'm sure that wouldn't hurt. It will trap more moisture in there though so maybe coat some of the surfaces with grease?
xero287
Exactly, anti-seize + cover = win.
lieutenantcolumbo
Looks like a condom for your coilovers.....use the ky ftw
xero287
I plan on getting the ribbed one so it fits in/on to the threads and springs perfectly.
AZP Installs
I would suggest Go back to stock for winter or if not feasible, anti seize and grease the crap out of them. -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. whitetiger
agreed. coils are technically not meant to be run in the winter, regardless of what manufacturers may say about anti-corrosive coatings or metals they use. going back to stock is best to maintain the mechanics of your coil-overs. And socks will only serve to speed up corrosion in my opinion as it will seal in salty water... -Mike Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/145749898/original.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://www.whiteline.com.au/images/logos/perf1.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts.
