Grinding whining sound comes and Goes? 2005 Legacy Wagon 2.5 L Any Info?

Recommended Posts

Hello 2 anyone who can help me..

My 2005 Subaru Legacy Wagon makes a noise that my Mechanic can not figure out. It comes and goes and does not sound pleasant.

The only way to describe the noise is to say that it sounds like a whining grinding skill saw. It gets louder and quiet depending on my speed. It whines and hums and I cant make out what side of the car its coming from. Its not my brakes, it doesnt make the sound while braking. I have had my wheel barings checked. I'm frusterated. Anyone have a clue what this noise might be!?

I'm wondering if this is a normal issue with 05 models. I hope to hear back from anyone who might be able to help.

Wrong forum bud, this is the cars for sale section. If the sound goes away with clutch engagement then that should point you in the right direction, wheel bearings as well, could be the turbo even... Take a video of the sound and post it in technical section here --> http://legacygt.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/turbo-powertrains-2-0gt-2-5gt-2-5xt-12.html

It's a wheel bearing. The people who checked it are probably not Subaru experts and don't know what they are hearing. That which you describe is the tell-tale bad bearing sound...
