CNT Racing Turboback Quad Tip Exhaust Review

Well, took the leap of faith and ordered the CNT Racing catted MT downpipe and quad tip exhaust last weekend. CNT and ERZ are one in the same and our local vendor was helpful and prompt to respond. Shipping was free and fast, shipped out Monday morning and arrived Thursday afternoon.

Initial impressions were good. UPS did a number on the box (surprise surprise) but each piece was wrapped with thick bubble wrap and taped nice and tight. Everything was nice and shiny :) the welds are quality and the system felt well built.

Had Ben and Danny at Metro Performance (awesome guys, highly highly highly recommended) remove the old and install the new. They had never heard of CNT before but were impressed of the build quality as well. A fitment issue we ran into was the downpipe support bracket did not match up with the support bracket on the car body. Not a huge issue as the exhaust seemed pretty solid after everything was bolted up but now there's a little rattle at certain RPM's and I believe it's those two pieces hitting each other. I'll figure something out to fix this and update. Another small thing was the CNT racing logos on the sides of the tips are upside down but not something you would ever notice unless you are eye level under the car.

Just a warning to all, this exhaust is pretty quiet. It's lightly audible from inside the car with almost zero drone at speed. Even with the windows down it's subtle in comparison to my old AutoSpeed. From outside the car you can hear a nice deep tone rumble, almost sounds like just straight engine. On WOT the deep rumble is pretty noticeable and is a nice clean sound (not raspy or ricey). I'll post a couple better videos on here later but here's a quick one fresh out the shop.

After a bit of settling and some minor adjustments the left muffler is still sitting a bit low, I'll figure something out to fix that as well and update here.

Overall consensus, I'm really happy with the look, very clean and could pass for OEM. The quad tip look to me is classy and sporty. If I could change one thing on the looks and sound it would be to make the tips a bit larger and slightly angled and a little louder. Other than that, no complaints :)

The passenger side muffler looks crooked. I ordered a CNT cat back and it did not fit on my car. The heat shield was removed and it bumped up against the rear drive shaft bracket. Even if we bolted it down it would've had a gap at the top of the flange, just wasn't going to happen. The customer service at CNT were nice and gave me a refund, so I can't complain about them personally, but not sure why my car had this issue.

Got a custom one done.

Fitment update, after the exhaust worked around a bit I was able to bolt up the downpipe bracket but now a heat shield is hitting the resonator so the shield will be bent, cut or removed as needed.

I'm running larger Cobb hangers so I'm going to try and swap for the smaller OEM hangers on the driver side and see if that helps level the muffler out.

Any update on getting this exhaust straightened out and looking even in the rear? Did the stock hangers do the trick? I'm considering this quad tip as I'm looking for something deep toned but milder overall in the sound department. Im not so sure I want to opt for this set up if I would have to live with uneven tips and the fitment (rubbing) issues you mentioned..

I apologize I missed your post before, I've been meaning to update this but havn't had the extra time. I still have yet to try the stock hangers on the driver side muffler to see if that would help level it out. I had the heatshield that was rattling removed but now I'm running into an issue of the midpipe bumping against a bracket at low speeds. I'm sure if I had time, a garage and air tools I could adjust everything enough to fix some of the issues but I don't. I still really like the sound and the look of the quads though.

I'll see if I can get some more pictures up and another video here this week.

For the price you can't go wrong, it's a quality built product but with that in mind, you're paying less because less time and money went into fitment testing/tweaking during development.

The current issue I'm having with the bracket right now could be an easy fix with some heat wrap and fine adjusting of bolts. As far as aesthetics are concerned, I have yet to do anything to try to adjust the mufflers so I'm sure those can be fixed fairly easily as well with a little work.

Just depends on what you're looking for. Custom is pretty much always the way to go if you can afford it but that's time and money.

Good to hear. . .mine is in the mail ERZ has a couple more of these closeout dual tip catbacks so you guys better jump on them. I went ahead with an uppipe and downpipe at the same time since my research yeilded some solid reviews on quality and sound. Not looking for it to be crazy loud either just want to get that rumble and open up the exhaust for the HP improvement.

Thanks for the great post!

i've had mine on for about 2 weeks. gotta say, i love it. fitment was an issue but you can bend the hangars. it sounds great, perfect for me because it's not loud, it's not farty/ricey, just a nice low grumble cruising and a bit of a howl when you open it up. the welds are quality, the stainless looks great, and i really didn't even want a quad-tip, but it looks sharp. oh. and it was freaking $350. no brainer. get one while you still can.
i can put anything i want down here?!
