shady02
I just picked my car up from subaru dealer. They fixed my turbo gasket leaks, replaced intercooler, and replaced mid pipe which was leaking. With this stuff replaced should I reset my ecu? And if so I was told by a local auto shop to disconnect the battery then touch the terminals together to totally drain the memory?

chato
yes you should. the engine will have bad learned behavior from the boost/vacuum leaks. just undo negative side of the battery. hold down the brake pedal for 10 seconds or so. should be good to go. shady02
Ok thanks. Have u eve heard of touching the neg and pos terminals together to completely erase memory?
ehsnils
I wouldn't do it since it can result in a current surge from capacitors in various ECUs. Disconnect any of the connections to the battery (positive or negative don't matter, take the one that you think is easiest) and push the brake pedal for 20 seconds, it should take care of the problem. Be aware that the idle will be a bit quirky in the beginning before the car has re-learnt and that you need to set the clock again.
shady02
I did it but after a minute or so the clock and date on the GPS screen went back to normal without me fixing it. Did it not fully reset or is it just satellite gps
ehsnils
That's the satellite, so don't worry about that detail then.
JermTheElf
Stepping on the brakes is a far safer way to discharge energy in the system. Like stated above, touching the two terminals will cause a surge of discharge rather than a bleed in the system.
Max Capacity
While the terminal is off clean it real good, then put some grease around it to keep moisture out.
