SSpeed
How concerning is this crack in the wastegate seat? http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k62/dil222/20160520_174707.jpg Supposedly a lot of VF turbos have this crack in the seat. For years I've been chasing a 4-600rpm change in spool as temps move past 70 deg. My wastegate flapper was also shifted, but I can't help to wonder if the increased temp caused just enough expansion in the metal to cause later spool. whitrzac
It's fine. The change in spool could be just about anything. Exhaust leak, tune, bcs, etc.
SSpeed
As I'm looking at this, the crack is in the direct path of the unsmooth portion of the wastegate flow. I may grab my carbide bit and smooth that out. I should smooth the step in the turbine outlet as well. I have my other thread as well, I'm guessing the shifted flapper was my biggest late boost problem. http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/rattlesnake-sound-under-boost-245193.html
SSpeed
I did some closer inspection this morning. It has at least 4 more cracks. One under the wastegate arm, a second parallel to the first in the seat (if it keeps going the seat will crack out), and two more back by the turbine wheel exit. This housing has had a good life, 150k rocking miles. Despite the cracks and wastegate shifting, it was still making great power. I'm going to replace the housing and put it all back together. Max Capacity
I have had those type cracks welded and /or stop drilled so it can be fixed. 305,600miles 5/2012 ej257 short block, 8/2011 installed VF52 turbo, @20.8psi, 280whp, 300ftlbs.
