ChefRacer
Hey guys, so I hooked up an aftermarket mid/y pipe, including the stock donut gasket kinda wedged between the dp and mid pipe, but I cant quite seem to get a tight seal. Do most of you guys keep the donut gasket and spring bolts, or switch up to just a standard 3" exhaust gasket and a couple of normale bolts. I'm just a bit worried that since there is no flex pipe, that the spring bolts are necessary to give a bit of flex to the exhaust. I still have rubber exhaust hangers so I know those will flex a bit. I appreciate your opinions. Thanks
ChefRacer
Doesn't anybody know this, I'm just trying to figure out what I can do so my 5 mo old baby isn't inhaling exhaust fumes anytime I'm sitting at a stop light with the windows open. Thanks alot for your help.
hal9e3
I'm assuming your mid/Y is 3". Here's what I did to fix it and some alternative approaches.
ChefRacer
Well actually both the dp and the mid/y are 3", I'm just not sure whether I should do a solid connection or another of these silly donut gasket/spring bolt setups
hal9e3
Not sure where to get a 3" donut. The DP didn't come with one? The donut's there for a reason - to allow some play between the engine/DP and the rest of the exhaust. However, if the junction can't be sealed up that way then a regular gasket is the way to go. Mr. Sinister
The donut is only used for a stock-style downpipe. If both your dp and mid-pipe are 3", then use a 3" gasket with regular bolts. Whether or not a flex section is needed is a different story.
