How much have you towed with your legacy

Recommended Posts

Tow ratings aren't limited by the hitch, but by the suspension/brakes of the tow vehicle. There is more to it than that, but that's the "short answer".

What do you want to tow that weighs 3500 pounds, and for how long a distance?

Well, i have a Miata that if blows up at an event would need to be towed to my house. Depending on where the event is it could be 20miles or 200 miles.

I do have stiffer springs on the lgt, so that should help a bit?

Today, back home around 1pm, LGT towed his 2002 Hyundai Elantra just fine. It was a 225 mile round trip. The Cobb sways, AVO end links & AVO +.50 Caster Adjustment Bushing system keep the GT in line. The STi 6MT made it a breeze to start off on the flats or hills. The close gear ratio keep the turbo nice & happy. Ran between 2700 rpms & 3500 rpms. Adaptive-One Brake Pads, did a awesame job of stopping. http://www.adaptive-1.com/

so alas... aside from some suspension strain... towing with a turbo really isn't that bad a thing?

Any pics of hitch installs from rear, curious how much it sticks out, and how noticable it is. I've been tossing it around for a while now. I've had a 4x8 trailer for over a year now without a tow vehicle. The ex took the Jeep in the split and I kept the trailer lol.

No not a bad thing, it is more wear & tear on any vehicle. Here's a pic. Only stick out a little more then the exhaust tips.

does'nt look too bad. thanks for the pics. I'm just curious but why don't other manufacturers make "out of sight" hitches like the magnum had??

I always thought it was a brilliant idea (ugly car to try to hide anything on ) but thought it was a good idea nonetheless.

Does anyone happen to have a spec sheet on the oem hitch? My father in-law owns a welding shop and I might see if we can figure out a design likt Mopar used....

Hammer Down, what other mods do you have? Why the STi 6MT swap?

In short I damaged the synchro between 3rd & 4th at the drag strip. STi 6MT is the strongest MT that Subaru make. Plus I get DCCD & front LSD.

Not many, The Cobb sways, AVO end links & AVO +.50 Caster Adjustment Bushing system keep the GT in line. The STi 6MT made it a breeze to start off on the flats or hills. On top of that, K&N drop in air filter, Cobb APv2 running stage1 93 oct. & lite weight wheels, about 14bls. ea.

Well on the LGT they use the rear tow loop as one of the mounting points of the hitch, you can see it if you look closely at this pic.

I see, so the tow hook would impede tucking it up any further.... so actually the Magnum's hideous bulkiness, creates voids to hide a hitch.... i'm gonna crawl underneath and see what I can see when I get home from work....

thanks for the pics

bumping an ancient thread....

looking at towing at 7000 gvw trailer, 2 axles, tongue weight is likely limiting factor. Any ideas what the max tongue weight would be?

also, the trailer has trailer brakes. Any opinions on that being helpful/doable?

will be hauling a Miata and weekends worth of racing toys.

I believe tongue weight is not to exceed 200lb, 250 max.

I'm contemplating towing our Impreza from TX to FL with my Outback. A full-load car trailer from U-Haul is 2200lb, and the car is 3200lb. That's pushing the class-3 hitch I've got and the EU weight rating for the car (4000lb).

Not sure if I'm going to go on with it, yet. It'd be on a quad wheel trailer with surge brakes. I know open-road towing will be easy, it's the backroads/stop-and-go that I'm mostly worried about.

That's impressive!! I was a little concerned about towing my 4x6 tilt trailer with random stuff on it, but I guess it'll be fine!

I know there's another thread somewhere with a recessed hitch prototype, but I don't think the project ever went to production.
