I love the Matte Black, but im still deciding on color. Anyway. Today I started fixing the body work. The car has been hammered by hail. I will post more updates during the week. Only did the boot, rear pillars, sorry I didn't take any before shots, but there's some of the bonnet to give you an idea on how bad it was. SBT Posted April 7, 2013 Share Posted April 7, 2013 Sucks about the hail. Always on my mind when a winter thunderstorm rolls through the area. No paintless dent repair guys in your area? Whenever we have a hail-damage area, the PDR guys descend on the location and fix all the cars that they can. Looks new, with no evidence of the previous damage. Easily make $2-3K a day doing several different cars - travel from one used car lot/new car dealership to the next. Take off and go fishing, surfing or camping/hiking when you want. Was thinking that, at some point, you may want to take the vinyl off and having it color-matched would make that a lot easier. I am going to Sand back, prime all of the door jams, hidden parts and get the whole thing looking mint. I'm not sure how to tackle the engine bay though This weekend, I will finish the roof and bonnet. It's hard not to shop for body kit's while im doing all this. muzzrx Posted April 13, 2013 Author Share Posted April 13, 2013 A little behind schedule, but started the roof today, got about half of it done, along with the door sils. I also tidied up a few spots on the boot that I had made a dogs breakfast of. One thing I am having trouble with at the moment is making sure im keeping it all level and smooth. I am finding it difficult ! My best solution so far has been wet sanding, and using the sponge to cover the area in water, and the deformities seem to show up more. You must also be willing to chase the storms which may put you away from home for weeks or months at a time AND you have pay to eat and sleep somewhere. I'm happy to have finished the initial sanding, because getting through the various coats of paint and primer and quite a pain in the ass. I used some primer + filler spray today on the boot, and it seems to fix up that last 5%, mistakes and hard to get to spots. I put it on, gave it a light sand and it came out gorgeous!! The bonnet was tiresome, and the easiest way was to just carpet bomb the whole area, and as you cut through the clear, paint, and primer, you easily see where the dents are. Because of the scoop and the cuts on the bonnet, I was thinking it would be very difficult, but I found it quite trouble free. Staying inline without damaging the enges and high points was reasonably easy. Hopefully during the week I can put some more work into the roof to finish, then just the bonnet to do. Either way I hould be finished by the weekend. Also I though I should mention what I am using tools and materials wise: Initial sand with 60-80 grit. wet sand seems to be the most efficient,dry just clogs paper too fast and makes it hard. Just using standard body filler from the local parts shop, and mixing i up on cardboard, I know its a no-no but its working fine. I'me bringing the dry filler down with 60-80 again, then switching to 180-240 to get closer. Finishing with 600. I as thinking of wet sanding a final with 800 before I Vinyl, though I dont know if that's too over the top. So if you are not looking for that kind of work. Then look into dipping your car. I have dipped mine do to a fender bender. So if you'd like an earful of tips. Just shoot me a pm.
