JMLegacy
Thinking of making this purchase to swap the p18 housing for the bigger P20 housing. I'm making full boost in 3rd at around 3500RPM now, and 4000 RPM in 2nd gear. I'm wondering if anyone knows anyone who did this on a 2 liter and what the result was like
fahr_side
Stick with the P18. The wheels on the 34 don't warrant the bigger housing. JMLegacy
I'm trying to find ways to increase my output without spending too much. Everything is pointing to meth. But I've read that the meth pumps are not reliable (user testimony in forums)
fahr_side
A VF-34 is a very nice turbo on a daily driver with an EJ20x in it. A TD05H-18G in 7cm2 housing is also nice, and has a bit more top-end. Meh. The meth systems have gotten a lot better over recent years. A lot of my customers starting using meth and after tuning with that for a while I fitted one myself. As with anything else, good install is crucial. Buy a quality kit, install and tune properly and don't look back. Most people having problems either didn't install the kit properly, or they hacked up some DIY crap system, or they forgot to fill the tank and ran out of meth. Personally I like the Snow kits but all of the big brand kits work well. I like to use a strategy whereby I only spray above 1bar. I use a 1bar actuator on the turbo. The extra timing and trimmed fueling in the tune is only reached in load ranges possible above 1bar. I connect the tank level warning to a relay and use that to chop the signal to the boost controller. That way when the tank is empty, you only get 1bar because the BCS is shut down and that's a safe tune on gas alone. Seriously, 99 out of 100 blow-ups are caused by the owner not filling the tank. JMLegacy
So if i'm at 230-240whp on 17psi @ 7K and 90 octane IF I add meth, about how much increase could I expect? Trying to compare meth vs turbo upgrade.
fahr_side
You can normally add 2 to 3 degrees of timing, which should net you 20~30whp. JMLegacy
OK. So about 10% power increase, and probably more if i run 20 peak -> 18 psi and seeing i'm on 90 octane, probably 4 degrees increase so prob 15% increase overall?
fahr_side
Yes you can usually run a bit higher boost with meth on as it compensates for falling compressor efficiency with charge cooling via evaporation. I'm not sure if the 34 will do 18psi at redline though, you'll have to experiment a bit with that. You may still find you get better peak power running less boost and more timing. Most people seem to taper to 17psi on the EJ205s... The 2.0 liter motors handle higher boost quite well... head gaskets are less likely to pop than on the 2.5 units. 20psi peak should be no problem. JMLegacy
Yes, I could get 18 at redline with the 34 Ok. Sounds good.
