f85stealth
I was originally going to go with coilovers but from what I read I would be gambling whether I would like them or not and i don't want to take a $3,000 gamble. So I was going to try step one and just put on some STI pinks. I know there are tons of threads about these but could someone help me weed through the pages and pages of crap? I need the pinks that will work with my 06 5mt Specb with the stock usdm Bilsteins. Also curious what the actual drop is for the front and rear as I understand it these springs will drop and stiffen the suspension. Thanks!
.Catalyst.
Here's the chart. The GT Sedan pinks I believe are the common choice for people with the USDM spec.B Rev C Bilsteins. The JDM spec.B is a 2.0l so less weight on the nose, and will equate to a more significant drop in a USDM that has the heavier 2.5. Others opt for the wagon springs in the rear to eliminate "sag" or if they plan on stereo equipment (more weight) in the rear. Also note that as far as suspension damping rates the Bilstein HDs are a bit stiffer and are supposed to pair nicely with the Pinks. My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned! car_cursed
$3,000? What were you going to put on? A good set of coilovers is about $1,000-2,000. What do you want from your suspension, AutoX, HPDE? or just lower? or slammed to the ground. More details are needed. Budget?

AZP Installs
I ran the sti pink wagon springs on my 05 LGT wagon and oiled with konis they were phenomenal for road racing. With the konis I could dial it in for mother in law duty or track duty. -mike http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpghttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. AZP Installs
What Koni's do you have and how exactly are you dialing them in? There are only 1 kind of Konis available for these cars, the Koni Sports. Track I usually ran then 1/4 turn from full stiff. On the street/MIL duty, 1/4 turn from full soft. -Paisan http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/91072632.jpg http://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/141039922.jpg%5Dhttp://www.pbase.com/paisan/image/133406601.jpg http://upload.pbase.com/image/137566671.jpg 11+ Years Maintaining, Modifying and Educating TriState Subaru Enthusiasts. Euclid
Thanks! How you like them? They were great. I used them with the stock struts, but after 50k miles the struts were dead. I actually just replaced everything with coilovers this past weekend. I've got the springs that I'm going to clean up and put up for sale soon. .Catalyst.
so the 06 specB has the Bilstein HD's? Anyclue as to the full model number? NO the '06 has Rev C Bilsteins along with all other spec.Bs in the USDM. When I was researching Pinks I read several times the Bilstein HD is better valved to mate with the springs vs. the ones on the spec. B. In the chart the GT-B is the JDM spec.B - which has a 2.0l engine so they are going to site lower with the USDM 2.5l. I believe you want the GT springs. That chart is all JDM models. So the JDM GT Pink should work well with a Bilstein HD (or Koni insert). My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned!
jackfortune
I went with STi Pink Springs Front/Rear ST-2038021000/ST-2033021010 the springs recommended by EDO for my 06 LGT 5 sp sedan http://shop.edoperformance.com/sti-pink-springs-frontrear-legacy-p-9386.html and new Bilstein HD's...... purrrfect....probably the original JDM setup....the way this car was meant to be. Perfect stance...perfect balance...a bit stiff on bad roads....take this car into a four wheel drift without drama...flat on grip....
f85stealth
So the pinks are not a good match for the USDM Bilstein? I am assuming all new struts (HD) and springs (pink) are going to cost just as much as getting coilovers at that point.

Probably, but coil overs at that price point are not going to ride nearly as well for a daily driver. My spec.B [#163] Project Thread with Pictures Get CryoTuned! jackfortune
Catalyst is correct....for daily driving the right JDM pinks matched to new Bilstein HD's are superb. I have about 1000 miles on my set. I like them better each time I drive on them. Compared to the stock set-up, it's like driving a totally different car. Literally the best sports touring ride I've experienced....and you can push the car much harder....I have 22mm Perrin sways front and rear, Perrin links front and back, stiff LCA bushings....this combo really works together.....will corner at much higher speed with no weirdness/drama.....no oscillation off transitions in corners (unlike the stock set-up)
mr.hicksta
Question for those of you running Bilstein HDs with JDM Pinks. Do you have to use a saggy butt spacer for the rears?
jackfortune
For my HD/pinks conversion I purchased 1/4" spacers from Fred Beans (but not the longer studs). The stock studs weren't quite long enough to use the spacers, so we left the spacers off. Very happy with final stance...absolutely perfect. Body line is level. But keep in mind that I used the EDO recommended pinks for my vehicle (06 LGT 5-speed sedan), and the pinks are designed for HD struts: http://shop.edoperformance.com/sti-pink-springs-frontrear-legacy-p-9386.html I suspect that if I had tried to reinvent the wheel the results would have been different, e.g. if I had used wagon pinks, for instance. Remember pinks are specifically designed for specific vehicles....a pink for one is not a pink for all....lol
fzxtreme
Hi all, Im thinking about getting a new set of struts and springs and I think I have decided on HD's and STI pinks. Now I don't mean to thread jack but I would like some help choosing the right parts from people who most likely know more about this stuff than me I have a 07 2.5i auto and from my searches I have found on fredbeans the HD strut kit with spec b top hats http://www.fredbeansparts.com/bilstein-hd-strut-and-spec-b-top-hat-kit.html and the sti pinks on edo http://shop.edoperformance.com/sti-pink-springs-frontrear-legacy-p-9385.html I just want to know if this set up is correct for my car. Thanks all
