2013 legacy mods

Recommended Posts

Just picked up a 2013 legacy. Was wondering if the 2012 gt hoods would fit to replace the stock hood for the 2013 cause they discontinued the gts. Also was wondering if all of the 5th gen performance parts would work for the 2013 models?

One last thing-- has anyone thought about making the 2013 into the gt by turbocharging it? Is this possible and if so, what work would have to be done in order to do so.

Thank you Subi family

Go trade your car in on a used GT.

Well.... you could have just bought a 2012 GT and tossed the 2013 front end on it... would be a lot cheaper.

Too late for that I guess.

No point trying to "make" a GT by adding parts, its either you do an engine/transmission swap or you stay happy with a non turbo engine.

Having been around the block since 1999 with subies, here is my take...

Since they changed the headlights, my guess is the hood will not work.

Suspension parts and brakes should work from 2010-2013

Making a 2.5i into a gt is possible but would cost a lot more money than buying a slightly used one. With infinite dollars, anything is possible, but not practical.

Realistically, I would say closer to 10,000 to 15,000 for a engine/transmission swap.

Not that I support getting a GT hood for an N/A car, but I wouldnt say that its impossible just yet.... from my preliminary observations, the headlight seems to have the same fastening points as the old headlight, which may make a front end swap for pre facelift and post facelift versions possible.

Even the bumper seems to have the same fastening points.

Are you swapping the 2013 front end delta? THAT will be uber cool. How abt the front of the hood meeting up with the 2013 grille?

Anyways for the swappers, might as well fabricate an FMIC set up with that much amount of money. Could save on a non-GT hood.:)

It can never be a GT. The higher compression engine demands a low boost situation; like 7 psi, 9 max.

The new engine would be difficult to tune as well as their is little to no support for it currently.

Go for suspension mods and be happy.

Or even better, attend an HPDE event to improve your driving skills. That is one of the best mods out there, it can easily be transferred from one car to another and makes you a safer driver both on and off the track.

Agreed although stock brakes and tires on a 2.5 will likely not be up to the task but that's where you can help out!

True, although a set of Hawk HPS pads on stock power and a HPDE 1 (Novice) driver should be fine. If he continues to track the car, then a LGT brake upgrade would probably be a good idea.

To Answer the OP questions about performance parts. The '13 2.5i has different motor, FB vs the EJ in the 10-12's. the are no real performance engine mods for the 10-12 motor. The suspension performance parts should interchange.

Would it be reasonable to anticipate FB mods being developed soon given the enthusiasm we have seen for BRZ/FR-S as well as the potential for an FB turbo in the near future?

BRZ uses the FA engine. Not sure what the differences are between FA and FB, but I probably wouldn't count on the parts being very interchangeable...

^^^Oh, sorry, my bad on the new engine. Guess I have been spending all my time concentrating on my LGT now that I have it. Spending very little time dreaming about other cars now because the dream has become reality, and it sits in my garage. But I am gonna steer the wife toward a BRZ in 2 years when she's ready for a new car, and I will be getting up to speed well before the new car shopping starts.
