mitskip
Hey guys, looking at a couple of cars and wondering which one to go with. Hope I can get some good help. 1. Black on black GT Ltd manual tranny, high performance clutch, All Maintenance Recorded. new water pump, timing, belts, all fluids changed (diffs, tranny, coolant) during 120K mile maintenance. Minor paint chips and scuffs. Has a full suspension kit hes throwing in the deal (not installed) and 2 sets of tires w/ 90% tread left on them, summer and winter. Has 137k miles asking $8900. Clean title 2 owner car. I test drove it and loved it. I just dont know if I can justify paying $8900 for it. Dent in a fender and scrapes on a rocker panel. Would this be worth $8900? I have links for both cars btw. 2. Silver w/ black interior GT Ltd manual tranny. Stock clutch also replaced, and all the maintenance done right at about 94k miles. All maintenance also recorded. has 100k miles on it, guy is asking $11k. The difference w/ this one is that it is in near perfect condition. The guy is the most meticulous OCD guy I have ever met about keeping records, even down to GAS receipts. It was truly amazing. Also a 2 owner car no accidents/clean title. Both cars on the test drive ran strong, everything felt tight, etc. Tires have about 5k miles on them for this one. What I am trying to decide is if I should buy the silver one w/ 37k less miles, or get the black one for less and put $ into making it look as clean and perfect as the silver one. BB on the black on is about 8k as it stands, and $11k on the silver one. The guy w/ the black one isnt willing to go lower than $8900 b/c he owes $9700 on it. I'll stop blabbering. What do you all think? Which would be the better option? Lets hear some opinions....
wengermi
im thinking the silver one has been taken better care of. what plans do you have once you get one? keep it stock or start modifying?
mitskip
Its going to be my DD so I am thinking I'll keep it stock. Unless I get a mod bug......
famaya26
Silver has lower miles. Has the timing belt been done yet? Water pump? If its has, more than likely yes, def consider it over the black one.
mitskip
both have had the maintenance done, timing belt, water pump, clutch has been replaced on both as well.
famaya26
Lower mileage one then. Just my .02 cents.
TurboLag23
Silver one. OCD owners are the guys you want to buy cars from. My parents are both like that; I've inherited two of their old cars (first was a 2004 Subaru Outback from my mom, second was the 2008 Acura TL I drive today from my dad), and both were PRISTINE when I got them. I've kept them well-maintained as well, but they both might as well have been brand new cars when I got them. Subaru's just been given to my little brother with 120,000 miles on it... just had the 120k service done and it's basically a new car hahaha. I worked on ones this summer in the auto shop that had comparable mileage but weren't well-maintained... It's the difference between swapping oil and swapping head gaskets - literally. Knowing as much as you can about what has happened to a car is definitely good. It's worth the extra $3,000.
TrueWhiteBoy
So long as the timing belt/water pump maintenance has been done and all other things equal, I'd go for the lower mileage one. I just spent roughly 2K on maintenance/repair at the 120K mark (120K Maintenance, Timing Belt/Water Pump, new radiator (old one cracked about a week earlier), fuel filter/fuel sensor
LosAngelesLGT
The black one is overpriced at least $1000. Additionally I would not want it. Find one like the silver one but a manual would be your best bet.
dr_sharp
Buy the black one then sell one set of tires and the suspension parts on LGT forums and come out on top. lol
dr_sharp
Also: "high performance clutch" = modded and hot-rodded in a past life. lol
LosAngelesLGT
After lowballing him for the body damage.
dr_sharp
Also, how does he owe that much money on an 8 year old car? Upside down on used car loan = fail lol
mitskip
LosAngeles, they are both Manual Tranny. I talked to them again both today, and the black one was not willing to sell for 8k, so Im getting the silver one...
Gritter99
Silver for sure, 37k miles for 2k is cheap! I drive roughly 12-15k a year do that's 2 years driving!

LosAngelesLGT
AWESOME! I'm glad you were in a place financially to get the better car! I certainly think it was the right purchase. Fair warning, joining this forum was the single stupidest fiscal decision of my 30s. Its also a lot of fun. Now you need to read http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/turbo-failure-wiki-173358.html http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/begin-modifications-your-legacy-gt-19037.html http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/official-turbo-upgrade-dyno-tuned-thread-72021.html http://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/bulletproof-tmic-mod-lgt-08-wrx-158870.html and maybe some of the stickies in the tuning subforum Cheers
