Probably a fairly obvious question, but can anyone tell me if the car battery should be disconnected before the installation begins?

Just got my kit for a new '06 Outback 2.5i - a couple of quick questions for those who've already successfully installed... 1) What's the recommendation on securing the board - double sided foam tape? 2) I'm going to be running a single 1/8" male-male connection for an iPod - can anyone help on suggestions/examples of where this kind of thing might best be routed? Ideally I'd like to get it into the cubby, and ideally I'd like to avoid drilling any holes in anything at all... Thanks, Simon
