1. Also, when the alternator was out, I noticed some radiator fluid pooling up somewhere that it shouldn't be. Could I please have some help and information on what I should be looking for and maybe how I could repair it? I checked the rad and it was full of fluid, as was the container, so I don't know how that fluid got there.. http://s1085.photobucket.com/user/tasteliberty/media/coolant1.jpg.html
2. I had a fun afternoon learning how to replace an alternator. Considering the fact that a few weeks a go I didn't even know where to find the alternator, it was quite the project for me. So fun. Bought a used one and had a friend nearby just because I was a bit unsure of some things. I usually come here and read what I can first, watch a few YouTube how-to videos, and then try my best. Worked out great - I did need help with one bolt because it was really rusted on and I didn't have the strength to loosen it. Oh, and the new bushing (I think that is what it's called) was protruding more than the old one so it needed a bit of adjustment. Wasn't quite sure if it was okay to hammer on the metal or what. If I had been alone I think I would've put some grease or WD-40 on it. Next project, changing my own oil. Just need to find a proper container and purchase the oil and filter
3. Bought a new extension cord and plugged in the block heater. Is it Spring yet?
4. Hi LW. Did you repair yours? It'll be too cold for me to be messing around with repairs that I have no clue about, but in Spring (about 11 mths from now) maybe I'll tackle it. It still locks properly and can unlock/lock from the inside but around and around it goes when I use the key. Strange.
5. What I did to my Legacy today? Well, I opened the passenger door, unlocked and pushed open the driver's door, and then walked around the car to get it. lol.. There's always something to learn/fix on these oldies, isn't there? I went to unlock the driver's door this afternoon and the key just kept turning, all the way around, and around.. much like Linda Blair's head, in the Exorcist.
6. Today I took a drive out of the city (rare), to search for eBay-inventory treasures before the dreaded Frozen Stuff shows up. When that happens, I pretty much stay home. Now that I have (hopefully) the correct amount of AT fluid the car just ran beautifully. Oh wow, I was so happy to notice a difference right away. The foam and bubbles are still concerning me but I couldn't do any expensive or major repairs anyway, so I'm just going to cross my fingers on that one, for now. It was suggested to me that the bubbles might be an O-ring leaking or a tube loose? The one that sucks up the tranny fluid. Who knows Oh, and I bought some high mileage oil - a treat for my car.. lol.. It was either that or a bottle of wine for myself. I think that I made the right choice. I love my ugly car. p.s. My car now has 270,000 miles on it.. (or maybe it's Kilometres?) Either way, it's impressive.
7. Hi Bud. Thanks for the reply. Yeah, it's for the power steering. My A/C isn't working at the moment and is not a priority to me. The winds are wicked today so I'm gonna wimp out until tomorrow and then see if I can get this job done.
8. Good morning, I'm confused with the codes on the drive belt that I just purchased from RockAuto. I ordered a Dayco 5PVK0875 and that's the code found on the cardboard package (along with a 345K5). Why would the actual belt have a different number on it? It shows 5PK0875. Is that just the way it works with such items? I don't want to install something that isn't correct and I also want to make sure that I received what I paid for.. there were varying prices for different makes, of course. Thoughts? Thanks.
9. Of course, we're such an impressive gender. I just received my drive belt in the mail today (bought it from Rock Auto). So, will tackle that little job one of these days. I was shown how 'easy' it is to install, but that was a few months back. Not sure I even have the proper tools. Funny story: Today a female friend mentioned that her "beater died". I immediately tried to remember what make of car she drove, then as she continued on into the story, it became clear that she literally meant a "beater".. as in, electric egg beater? LOL
10. "At the woman's", LW? lol.. She's not too busy picking berries and gathering firewood?
11. Good morning, Maybe you can make one, too. I've seen store brands of similar products but they're usually vinyl or plastic and not nearly as sturdy. It's ugly has heck but it matches my car. .. lol I've gone through one very, very nasty winter with my car and didn't have any problems with the frame-less windows. Can't say I even realized that they were frame-less windows, at the time, but that's another story about my learning curve. What kind of temperatures do you get in the winter? I think our coldest day was -36C.
12. Ugh.. just the thought of winter's arrival.. not fun. Last year was unreal. There's nowhere to put the shovelled snow after awhile! I don't need an ice scraper for the windshield because I use a neat cover. My former husband made it for us, years ago. Basically, it's a large piece of canvas fabric that has two bungie-type cords on either end. I lay the fabric across the windshield and wipers and secure it around the side mirrors (for windy nights). In the morning, I just flip the cover and shake off the snow. Saves a lot of defrost time and the dreaded scraping.. especially that one type of ice that almost embeds itself into the glass. lol That's our MacGyver class for today, folks! (I'm also trying to lure LW back to the forum)
13. Isn't that always the way it works out, eh? lol.. Wash one spot on the wall and pretty soon your steam-cleaning the carpets and moving furniture around! Yesterday I had my muffler "fixed" Award winning MacGyver mod... lol But, I'm happy!
14. It certainly has its patches of rust, yep.. It'll look very seasonal and high fashioned soon though, as we're slowly creeping into Fall.. Fits right in
