  1. titoedge Charlottesville, VA 2007 OBXT Wagon, OBP (Stealthy)
  2. after all my work to get one wheel bearing switched out, and failed DIY attempt, it was determined that I did the wrong wheel. i was able to do the other wheel (right) today and car is silent again, at least as silent as an OBXT should be ;-) thanks again for write-up lesson, make sure to dble check before doing anywork, which wheel bearing needs replacing. i thought for sure it was the driver, but i was actually hearing the passenger side more clearly. now i know.
  3. you are correct, it was post install, but i never actually completed the hub switch out (just got too late and i didnt want to have any other issues that late) i still get to do the swap out this weekend. it's nice to learn all sorts of new things on my car, this thread was suber helpful, thanks to all EDIT: wailed on the 4-14mm bolts for way too long last night and only proceeded to remove 2, even with pb blaster and liquid wrench. I had car up on jacks as high as they would go, still couldn't get into the cramped space easily, with big breaker bar. air tools make a huge difference, I officially admitted defeat and had it towed to a local shop who knocked it out in an hour. I hate not finishing but didn't see the point in buying air tools just for this ~$300-400 entry level. thanks again to all for this write up, I just was defeated by doing it with handtools alone.
  4. i did go back to spec, before driving. just didnt type it out, my bad. although in the theorhetical world, why would it matter? the entire wheel bearing is getting changed out anyways so whats the risk that you mention? damage to the spline or knuckle?
  5. sweet write up, grabbed part today with a 32mm and breaker bar. Style Name : Front Wheel Drive Hub Puller http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/CatalogItemDetail.aspx?R=BK_7768017_0006392273 Says front wheel drive hub puller, but I'd think it's doing the same task regardless. Plus it's only $39 (full refunded) if returned in a week vs. the $100 one at sears, no refund. Got job 75% complete only to get stumped by the axle nut at 11pm. Put it all back together and loosened axle nut after reattaching wheel to car, so much easier than struggling with it in the air. I'm all set to finish up tonight, thanks for all the insight in the thread!
  6. thanks, i'm reading up on getting a vagcom cable and the ssm software. i really appreciate the help/responses.
  7. worked perfectly, only snafu is that i drained 2qt too much out, and need to pickup some more of the subaru OEM stuff from the dealer. i noticed a small leak, got worried and then realized it was drips from my funnel, nothing from the pan or anywhere else (just gravity and a dripy hose) thanks again! i also got a great funnel from advanced, with a cap on the end. Nice and clean! EDIT: TCU reset, i guess i can do that with a reflash using my Accessport? never heard it called a TCU, thought it was the ECU. but i get your drift.
  8. thanks for this well explained DIY, got all the parts for extension tubing and gonna give it a whirl this week. really excited to be able to solve the hard shift that i'm experiencing between 2nd/3rd, and i'm at 80k. subaru OEM was about $6/quart, not that bad compared to the stealership doing the work. plus i learned something!
  9. 2007 OBXT had to disconnect the blue/black wire and the brown wire from the harness, but after a full read here I was all done in 10mins. really helped to semi open the white plastic housing with the screwdriver, allowed for much easier wire removal and just tap/push it back in place. even managed the removal of the seatbelt chime (i.e. white tab/switch in seatbelt housing) ...i cant believe i waited this long.. damn slacker
