  1. Hi, Sorry to revive this. Can somebody tell me how DRL suppose to work on 2006 Legacy GT. We want to install halos but I can not see any difference in lighting on Off; middle; On position? Thanks!
  2. There are a lot of options questions you should ask. For one maybe 6k for a brand new engine is Ok price I would not know, but you can definitely get a rebuilt for half the price. Another option to rebuilt yours (if possible). So that bring me to the questions you need to ask/answer: What do yo mean under "blow turbo"? did the bearing actually broke apart and metal parts get sucked in the oil, or it did not go that far? For the second turbo, what turbo did they put in? Did dealership find metal particles in the oil? Does engine run or it seized? (If it run, it possibly could be flushed, oil coolers, collectors can be replaced) If it run it could be rebuilt (labor intensive but still not 6K!) How many miles are on the car? what is the general condition on it (I assume since you payed at least 9K for it, it is in good condition) The bottom line is that there are cheaper options that 6K for the new engine.
  3. Just out of curiosity, if you knew about issues with the turbo, what would you have done?
  4. Well, that will defeat the purpose of me trying to cool of the car. And I can accomplish warm air through the windshield defogger mode My goal is to have only cold air to windshield.
  5. I tried it, icon comes on and no changes in temp to the windshield.
  6. Thanks! So i am coming to the conclusion that it is a feature that the defogger warms the ACed air. Fanny fact: I called 2 dealerships with that questions. One said that AC will never be on in defogging mode (the fact I know is false) another said that defogger will not warm up air - bring it in and after initial $139 for diagnostic..... Thanks
  7. This is not a stupid question at all. Icon is NOT on, but AC does run. the reason I know it that if after the defogger I stitch to the regular mode, AC would stay on even though it wasn't on before. It is hard to use windshield/legs mode because it is really cold for legs
  8. Well, in Minnesota in the summer it is humid, when temp is getting lowered (or raining), from the humidity windshield will fog up. usually in the situations like that I am running AC to dry and cool the car. It is very uncomfortable to have warm air blow from the vents in the hot humid car, when I am trying to dry it and defog the windshield. What you say makes sense too so I would not be too surprised if Subaru built this "feature" in.
  9. Sorry if this is discussed anywhere, but I can not find it. I have 06 GT and when I turn frond defogger on (button) the system will blow warm air, even though the setting is all the way to 65. If I select the mode for windshield and legs, air is cold and air conditioned. Is this a normal behavior, or my system is broken. All other settings for Mode behave as expected. Thanks for advise.
  10. How badly your turbo "poo'd"? If it is in rebuildable condition, you might consider rebuilding it. I did mine at pretuning.com. It is substantially cheaper than buying new. Brian's turbos are an upgrade. You would need to change oil lines and re-tune the car.
  11. you were filming it it at idle when there is not enough exhaust flow to spin it fast. good test would be to increase the rpm slowly. if noise increases proportionally - it is not the turbo. if noise goes away or becomes louder - it is turbo. This noise is very similar to what i had when my turbo started to fail. Mine was more on the turns and start up.
  12. Extremely useful and scary thread. I just brought a 2006 GT from NY to MN and my way turbo started to whine, so I want to replace it before i get all the scary scenarios. I am new to subarus and even though I knew about the turbo dangers, the car was extremely well maintained :-( My Question. Does anyone install rebuild VF40s? There a couple of places where I can send my turbo to be rebuild. Anyone know about reputable places? I found one place in IL: http://pretuning.com/category/turbo-services/ I am really strapped for money after just buying it and OEM turbos are very expensive. Another question: what is a good tread for turbo replacement steps? Thanks
