  1. Old thread!! Shipped the old legacy long ago but I wrench. If the control arm bushings and ball joints are good. Check the motor mounts. If these are loose enough it twists the motor causing more wear on the CV joints and misalignment which can cause vibrations. Letting off the gas would make the vibration lessen dramatically.
  2. Front axles man. The cv joints. I replaced mine with aftermarket and got vibrations I never had with stock.. Been a year and it's gotten worse it vibrates at highway speed. Slightly more when on light throttle tells me it is the cv joints. It's a known problem that aftermarket joints are a problem on Subaru. Even idling feels rough because of the slop in the joint. With oem you couldn't tell the motor was running. Can you feel the motor idling or is it smooth. Oem was so smooth you barely knew it was running. I swear after market joints are an absolute crap shoot. But oem are more than double! I had my tires balanced 3 times and rotated no difference. Suspension is solid. No vibration braking.. If you have a good suspension and tires, it's your aftermarket shafts man, they don't remain balanced. I believe this is the issue. The shafts don't pop when turning but the tolerance and balance is not good enough for Subaru standards. .
  3. I got mine fixed! Is was poor contact from the wire connectors. Previous owner must have had a leaky battery, acid/ or fumes had got into the connector and corroded the contacts. Cut off the connectors and put spade connectors on the wires reconnected and all works well. My wiper problem is fixed too. The wipers were stopping Mid windshield when turned off, you had to turn off when they were down.. Now the wipers return normally. A nice side bonus to my Work! @ICT Don't tear wheel yet. You probably have a bad contact at the pump. Colder temps can cause poor electrical connects to fail. Or you may have had frozen washer fluid in the lines.. Good luck. .
  4. Nouse4aname... Dude thanks! Your right I was sitting with seat back in an upright position up to my back and head near the headrest.. I laid the seat back and bam I was sittin in the spot I needed to be on the cushion. My legs are supported now! The set back now only Comes half way up my back. To go back to the headrest is a laid back position like I used to ride as a young man. Not sure if this affects the safety feature of the headrest or not.. At any rate it was a quick simple and easy fix. Much more comfortable!!! If anyone has this issue lay your seat way back and scoot back in the seat, then adjust the back up.
  5. Yes your correct. The fuse just disables the awd for towing. A lot of people have removed the rear shaft on the volvos due to problems. I don't want to do that at all though, I got the car for the awd. Just gonna look for some really good gear oil.
  6. I will have to look into that, it's a box under the hood with one fuse in it. I've heard talk of running them in fwd for extended periods could be detrimental to the front drive as all the power is deverted there when it's not designed for it.. Will have to dig a little deeper on than... could be a viable option for summer driving if the mileage improved significantly. But regardless you still have the resistance of all the gears and rear drive, but now your dragging it instead if driving it. so I'm thinking there may only be a Marginal improvement, if any, Nothing significant. I think the key, if it were possible, is to get the drivetrain to glide easier with less friction. Easier coasting you know. Not sure if we can get any improvement out of it though.
  7. I saw like 50 suburbs today north rockford to south Janesville. full range of them even a TriBeCa.. Most notable was a gen 3 or 4 black legacy gt sedan with white pin stipe in Beloit.
  8. I just picked up a 00 gt wagon. Cloth power seats. I know what you mean, I noticed yesterday. The edge of the seat wouldn't touch my legs. So I had no support it was straining my lower back. I played with the power seat adjustment a lot and found something somewhat comfortable but still not supporting my legs. Only way I got leg contact from the front of the seat was raising it way up, to where I was almost touching the ceiling. I'm 5'10 175. The wierd thing is only the back of the seat goes up and down. That's where it fails, maybe the adjustment is broken? My Volvo adjusted both the front and back of the seat cushion up and down. The subaru needed that front end adjustment too... I don't think that it's the seat is too short but that the front height is too short, there's no angle to it in relation to the floor. my legs don't touch the last 4-5 inches of it while driving. So yeah legs just dangling kind of So now I'm thinking the only thing to do is manually adjust the front of the seat up with shims under the frame. If they can safely be shimmed enough. There should still be enough adjustment in the other angles to get a correct seating position. Edit- just saw rices post, @ rice - is there enough fabric to bolster the front? That's sounds like a decent idea too.
  9. Oh yeah, actually my wife drives it during the week. I DRIVE it on the weekends. Hence the decent Gas mileage. I just got this car, the Tires are @ 35/34, fresh 5/30 castrol gtx. Seems this car would get about 25-26 on the highway, we'll see. I would like to try to improve the mpg. I'm thinking something in the diffs to reduce the friction. Looking for the best oil to put in since I need to change them. I'll be looking for anything else I can do to reduce the drag in the awd. Clean the intake, possibly stock k&n but I'm not sold on them yet for the price. Maybe some very very slight aero mods... I don't know if its just mine but I only have ground effects on the side , the bumpers sit higher, i guess for ground clearance. But that front valence can help with the highway mpg. I may add a black plastic or rubber one, set back a little on the front. I think I may get a mpg or 1/2 out of it on the highway...
  10. I'll chime in here. 119,000 on stock N/A, Just finished my first tank of ~50/50 mixed driving and the gas mileage on 87 octane was 22.2 ... I was hoping for 24- 25.. But it is still under 50 degrees here.
