  1. My '05 LGT 5MT wagon is just about due for an engine rebuild, and I'm putting together the plan. I'm planning on a VF52 build, and one of the big questions is, do I stick with stock fueling or go stage 3? A big contributing factor to that decision is emissions. So this question is for Colorado residents with stage 3 builds. At emissions time, when I put on the stock downpipe and flash the stock tune, will that work with bigger injectors, or do I have to put on stock injectors? Second question, also for Colorado residents: can anyone recommend good shops in the Denver metro area for head rebuilds?
  2. Have an assistant try to start the car while you listen to the starter relay. If the relay clicks, the problem is downstream - starter, wiring, or battery. If the relay doesn't click, the problem is upstream - clutch safety interlock switch, the relay itself, ignition switch, wiring. Read the circuit diagrams in the vacation pix. If the relay doesn't click, the relay and the clutch switch are very easy to test.
  3. I highly recommend the ThinkDiag Bluetooth scanner. I've used it for a bunch of fairly advanced operations on a variety of makes, including body module work on my Subie. An incredible amount of functionality for under $100. https://mythinkcar.com/products/thinkdiag
  4. I have a leaky rear main seal and a chattery TOB, and pretty soon I'll pull the engine to install a snout kit and a new seal. The last time I installed one of these, the PDM TSK3 was the only option. And it worked fine, no complaints. This time, when I went to Amazon to look for one, I found that it's not on Amazon, and I don't mind shopping elsewhere, but I found that Amazon does have the ClutchMaxPro kit for a suspiciously low price. Has anyone tried this thing? Also, what fuel line disconnect tools do you guys like? And what tools do you like for pulling the rear main seal?
  5. Denso is the OE manufacturer for Subaru sensors. Get Denso. Same sensor you'd get at the dealer, for a fraction of the dealer price.
  6. That makes more sense. FWIW, you can get an OBDLink and BtSsm for less than that. And a decent smoke machine for a similar price. Independence!
  7. You have a decent shop that does diagnosis for $40?
  8. I did not mean all of that, so thanks for the information.
  9. Sorry if this has been covered ad nauseum, but all the threads I've found are 100-page rambles about STi swaps. I'm looking for the simplest possible 6MT swap into my '05 LGT 5MT wagon. Can I just throw in a 6MT from an '08-'09 Spec B and call it a day?
  10. What are your fuel trims? If you're super lean at idle, that could stall you out.
  11. The tailgate wiring harness is the source of many evils. However, OP does not have a wagon, and even if he did, his symptoms are not consistent with tailgate wiring issues. The key is "If i put my shifter in one specific spot, they work." The problem is at the reverse light switch on the transmission. Which is not necessarily to say it is the switch itself. A lobe in the transmission operates the switch, and that lobe wears down a bit after like 200K miles. In which case you need a thinner washer on the switch. Do your diligence - test the switch itself, test operation while shifting in and out of reverse.
  12. I've had good luck with PS pump rebuilds. Whatever you do, just don't get a Cardone reman pump. Those are invariably garbage.
  13. I just received a ThinkDiag Bluetooth scanner, which is an amazingly full-featured tool for under $100. It hooked right up to the BIU and pulled an old B1101 code, but no B0500. The ThinkDiag was able to operate the door locks and various other functions through the BIU, and it has the capability to enable/disable the keyless buzzer and register fobs. It was unable to contact the keyless entry module. At this point, once I verify power and ground to the keyless entry module, I feel pretty comfortable firing the parts cannon and picking up a used keyless entry module from eBay. As a side note, the ThinkDiag acts like it has immobilizer support for this car as well, but I didn't go too far down that menu. Don't want to break that...
