  5. I'm currently in LA (lower alabama), and since there's not an AL thread I figure I'm close enough. Got about 50K on her, totally stock with a garage full of parts for all those projects I promised myself I would do. On another subject, the closest dealer to me is Pensacola, I think. Anyone have experience with them, or know of other shops in the panhandle-tallahassee area that work on subarus?
  6. Picked up new gaskets for $17 (They told me 5.23 a piece over the phone as well as an extra shipping charge, but that wasn't what they charged me). Took nearly 3 hrs altogether, this walkthrough was very helpful. Here is what I have to offer: If you have some dental picks it makes getting the old gaskets out a breeze. I ripped one of the tabs off one of them with needle nose, so the pick was a must. Some plugs to stop off the coolant reservoir and lines make things less messy. I actually didn't completely remove the reservoir. I left the bottom line attached and had plenty of play to get the pass side done. From the picture, the blue arrows show additional bolts/plugs that I left in place and everything worked just fine. I did, however, remove the air pump (circled, three bolts), which gave lots more room to work with the front gasket on the driver's side. Also took off the bolt (orange arrow) that holds the fuel lines down to gain some extra play. Just take time while seating the new ones to make sure you don't have a fold or something crazy when you bolt the manifold back down. A small mirror is super helpful. The weather should get cold enough again by the end of the week for me to tell if it did the trick. Good luck! *Updadte: Survived all through last winter ('11) and still doing fine this winter although I am out of the cold of MT.
  7. well crap, I thought it was my plugs, but now that I think of it, it hasn't really been that cold since I did the plugs... so looks like I'm getting some new o rings. Thanks for the info.
  8. no, but when I did mine I took off the plastic hot air pump line on the drivers side and having it on my lift made that little step a lot easier. All the plug work is done from above. very nice write up! about 42K on the car and I was getting rough idle and an engine error code for lean on one of the cylinders. Plugs did the trick. EDIT: Plugs did not really do the trick! It ended up being the o-ring gaskets between the intake manifold and the tumbler valves. The stock ones are too stiff in really cold weather and don't make a good seal until the motor heats up enough. No harm no foul in replacing the plugs though.
