  1. Quick update - After ~35K miles the engine is holding just fine - samek power, no oil burning 5EAT by Dave/Hexmods holds fine too. Really, no issue, just a 450/550hp daily driver (depending on fuel:) Highly recommended! ps: is it just me or others too are very disappointed with Subaru sticking to CVT instead of moving onto 7EAT for their newer cars...? CVT max torque limits the tunability of their cars. Too bad - my future cars will be Audis.

  3. The car looks totally stock. This is whats under the hood: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZHrwN4FAgR/ Also, the front brakes are floating rotor, pictures to come...
  4. Dave stuffed in as many friction plates as will fit - like 40+% more friction material... my Diff is cryo treated and REM polished (but I still refrain from pushing it) TC is made by IPT for "stock" stall speed and of course I got the HexMods VB Pity Dave is no longer in the business, perhaps a group buy will convince him to get back into this and make a few more of these amazing 5EAT - Dave are you still out there? I am pushing ~550hp/lbtq at the crank so anybody who is considering getting a 64lb/min turbo needs a Stronger tranny, no bull!
  5. A quick update on my 7163 TS build - it is finally DONE! I been driving my Monster OBXT for a few months now, including a 4000ml road trip to Colorado and back to California - the car performed flawlessly - no leaks, no major issues - Koodos to Paul at YimiSport for an awesome welding & tuning job. The power on Cal91 is awesome - there is power & torque to devastate anything out there. On E85 it is much MUCH scarier. On 91 I get ~22mpg on cruise control at 75mph but on e85, I just can't keep my foot off the gas - the results is 14mpg + Big Smile. My car is Automatic, and the transmission (custom one-of-a-kind made by Hexmods,) is holding, no problems. Biggest issue is that I have lost the OEM ATF-2-water heat exchanger when I upgraded to a bigger Koyo radiator - consequently the ATF takes its time to warm up, and in subfreezing Colorado Mts it stay in the 120F, which I think is a bit on the cold side. But so far so good and the 5EAT is behaving well. (I plan to change to a different radiator with an internal heat exchanger and route the ATF 1st through the radiator to thermalize it, then through my auxiliary ATF cooler to drop the temp a bit before sending back to the transmission, for a bit more head room - at full throttle, while the TC is unlocked, the temperature can easily spike to 240F while accelerating, dropping quickly as soon as the TC locks up. The twin scroll 7163 is a beast of a turbo - little lag is noticeable and the power just keeps building linearly up to and beyond 7K (on my built motor.) I estimate 0-60 in low 3 seconds - anything short of a Corvette ZR1 of 911 turbo have a surprise coming... Ask your questions, I'll try to reply when I get a chance...
  6. I almost never bother with American muscle - many drivers are too young, dumb & inexperienced and the most cars are way too tail happy for street racing. I did once take on a Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT with an aftermarket turbo kit - we were head to head on the HW untill XXXmph when I had to let off at the limit of my suspension, but the SRT didn't get an inch on me - the owner was very unhappy having just spent over $100+K on his build which couldn't even beat a 10yo OBXT And that was when I had a much smaller EFR 6258 SS setup on an older motor - that experience is what got me to upgrade upto 7163 SS (crazy/scary power but just too much lag for daily driver,) and now, finally, to a 7163 TS - best of both worlds. Mission accomplished. FYI, on the Yimisport dyno, I am now making near 2X what a new OEM STI makes which is good enough for me
  7. xtera, you are correct, SS should generate a bit more (5%) hp on the account of having a slightly higher A/R ration 0.85 (vs 0.80 on the TS) However my motor is a 2.6L strocker with P&P heads, and WPC friction reducing shot peening treatment on all internals, hence the opposite difference. Anyway, I was never after top end power (its an automatic for god's sake:) but bottom end and midrange torque i.e. larger area under the curve down below for better drivability. No racing plans whats so ever unless, of course, challenged on an empty street by a pesky M/AMG car driven a somebody who obviously didn't earn it - its purposely designed as an overpriced german car ego crusher
  8. The 7163 TS makes 18whp/23wtq more than the previous setup (7163 SS) on E85. 43whp more with the same torque as before on 91 octane. But these numbers are not telling the main story - the TS setup is much more responsive and linear - the SS had a jackal and hyde personality - little below 4.2-4.3K, crazy scary beyond that - not for DD. The area under the curve between 3.5-5.5K is where TS setup shines. note that my 5EAT Auto is a big power/toque hog, on a manual it might be different...
  9. Quick update on my 7163 TS build: Paul@Yimi welded new big mufflers on the car - its now near stock quiet - just a "giant sucking sounds from the intake tract", no embarrassing noises to attract unwanted attention. Making 50+% more than STI stage II, and mind you it is an Automatic 5EAT I am guesstimating ~550+hp at the crank on corn and near stock - like spool - it's a twin scroll afterall A perfect sleeper DD - exactly what I was after (I'll update more after some time in the car...)
  10. ps: I read somewhere that Feal has seen premature failures on unpaved/gravel roads - if this is the case, then they are Not for me...
  11. Thanks m_sprank, Since I do take my OBXT on rough roads, including unpaved/gravel roads I had hoped to keep the "Outback" feel for the car - no racing is even intended. Is there any particular LGT suspension which, when lifted onto an Outback can mimic the outback ride of rough roads, but with improved handling & feel, but without adding noise & vibration? I am open to any recomendations. A person has recommended me to consider Feal Suspension, specifically "custom" for OUtback tuned 411 version. Anybody out there has any experience with these? Thanks again! -I
  12. Thanks Skibump, WOuld you mind adding a bit more about the before/after ride/handling/noise characteristics and trade-offs for your new suspension - what improved, what stayed the same, what got worst and what would you like to see/hear improve even further, beyond this kit? Thanks! (I got a 500+hp OBXT and can use a good suspension upgrade, no racing, just a DD
  13. It WILL make more than 500hp, but I may dial it back a bit So far the spool-up in near stock-like, at least by the graph, of course the EFR is MUCH more linear spooling than the spike & drop VF turbos... just linear pull, pull and PULL, way beyond what an OEM OBXT suspension & breaks can handle, scarry! (I already upgraded the brakes, and if the transmission holds I'll be upgrading the suspension next with a Bilstein Kit from japan, unless somebody has an even better idea, anybody...?
  14. Quick update - my TS7163 motor puts down 380whp in Cal 91 - not bad at all considering its a 5EAT. Instaling Maddad mufflers next to quiet things down and then e85 tune...
  15. a quick update - 7163 TS is in, no tuning yet but I am getting over 300whp on just the base map - little - 2- no lag, in fact, I have a problem - compressor surge - looks like the engine cannot ingest the air the turbo is happy to provide! Any suggestions how to best deal with this? I am going to change mufflers to try to quiet the car, going to try 2.5" x 2 Maddad's - anybody has experience with this, noise wise? More soon - I should have the tuning done over Thanksgiving...
