1. I did a Flatirons Tuning podcast/YouTube interview on Winning Endurance Races in a Subaru. I hope it helps some of y'all. Winning Endurance Races in a Subaru
2. Colonel Red Racing 2005 Subaru STI This car has been raced by 3 owners since 2010. It has been extensively modified and has seen it’s share of hard racing, blown engines, rebuilt trans, and other racing events. Contact has been minor. The worst contact damaged the front and rear driver’s side fenders. They have been straightened. There has been no frame bending or damage. However the body panels are “race ready”, not showroom perfect by any means. The learning curve was steep but the car is now capable of running 8 hour enduros. We have won the ME0 class at the Cascade Festival of Endurance twice, mostly because the faster competitors cars failed to finish. In the wet the car is nearly unbeatable. Competitors in the unlimited class that regularly beat me in the dry I dominate in the wet. For Sale for $29.5K obo. Located in Bend Oregon. I have an enclosed trailer and can deliver in the Western States for extra fee depending on distance. Contact: Colonel Red Racing, PM me here or on Facebook and I will send you further contact info. 3. Interesting. The images are an experiment, I posted them on Facebook, then used the image address for the posts. Maybe you have to be a FB user to see them? I used to use One Drive to host my images but I upgraded to a premium business version which I didn't realize doesn't support forums. And Google Photos doesn't either. Trying a test. Can you see this image?
4. We won First Place in our class in the 8 Hour Enduro at PIR. Two years in a row we have finished the entire 8 hour race and won our class. Like last year our main competitor's car broke down after they finished the 4 hour. Unlike every other year it finally rained. What a difference that made! Cars, some very, very, fast ones that had been lapping us all day weren't able to handle the rain. For 2 hours not a single car passed us, and we passed a bunch of them, including the Saker several times. And we stayed on slicks. It's a racing memory I'll have forever. Thanks to Subaru of Bend for your support! Retro Racing it was great partnering with you again in the paddock. And thanks to Arcflash for your fabrication support and tuning.
5. I'm prepping both the STI and 818R for the Cascade 2-4-8 hour enduro on Oct 14th at PIR. If t's nasty weather we'll take the all weather fighter, the Blue Sake Bomber STI. Enclosed, wipers, defrost, and most of all AWD makes it a fantastic car to race when it's 50 degrees and raining. New CV axle, new sparkplugs, ignition coils, and ignition coil connectors. New brake pads, brake fluid. If the weather is beautiful (like it is today, very rare in the PNW in October) we'll take the 818R. If you are interested in crewing for the race please contact me. gator.hudson at hotmail.com.
6. We were testing the 818R at Oregon Raceway Park last week to prep for the Cascade 2-4-8 hour Enduro Oct 14th. One of our friends, Jack, was accelerating up Valkyrie Hill in his BMW when the seat bracket broke in the front on both sides at the same time and rocked him back into the cage bars. He's 70+ and weighs maybe 145 lbs, so it's not like he overpowered the brackets. I've never seen this failure before:
7. Correct we noticed that repair too. We are replacing those wires farther up in the harness.
8. The Ridge wasn't a good weekend. The car wasn't running right, I was getting Cyl 3 misfire CELs. Then during the 1 hour enduro my cool shirt quit working after 10 minutes. Finally I got motion sick! I never barfed but I sure felt like crap. I hung on to finish the race but it wasn't pretty. The Cool Shirt failed because the two little o-rings on the male end of the hose that plugs into the cooler were gone. The pump simply pumped all the water out onto the passenger floorboard where it exited thru some holes. I've never had motion sickness at The Ridge. As an instructor at ORP, yes. But not driving at The Ridge. ORP has taught me to wear Sea Bands on my wrists and that usually does the trick, but not this time at The Ridge. I'll have to get The Patch for races there in the future. And finally the Cyl Misfire CEL: Falling under the heading, the mystery that will not be solved....We are prepping the STI for the Cascade Enduro in case the weather turns nasty. (If it's great weather we are taking the 818R). All year we've had issues with cyl misfire codes in the STI. In the past the codes were caused by over winter gas + Boostane fouling the sparkplugs. So every spring we swap in new plugs. But this year we kept getting cyl misfire cels. We swapped in new plugs again in June but I got Cyl3 cel a couple of weeks ago at The Ridge. We also do compression checks after almost every race. So we pulled the plugs and checked the compression, it's fine. New plugs again. But this time we noticed this: WTF!?! Who "fixed" a failing coil connector with a zip tie? No one knows. It's possibly been there a long time, you don't have to disconnect the plug to pull the coils and do compression and plug swaps. And the connector looks toasted. It might be heat from the downpipe, or it might be the coil is going bad. iWire has a blog post about using zip ties to "fix" a failed connector and a YouTube on how to replace it. Plug Spotlight - Coil Pack Plugs - STOP USING ZIP TIES! The fix: We've ordered iWire connector replacements, new coils, and new plugs for all 4 cylinders. We're prepping both the STI and the 818R for the 2-4-8 hour Cascade Enduro on Oct 14th. If the weather is nice well take the 818R. If it's cold and nasty the STI will be the weapon of choice. And personally I'm hoping it pours all day!
9. Next and probably my last Sprint race in the STI is this weekend at The Ridge. It will formally go up For Sale there. If it hasn't sold by October I may race it in the Cascade 2-4-8 Hour Enduro. If you live in the NW and are interested please come by The Ridge and check it out!

11. It was a fun race weekend paddocked with my friends from Retro Racing at Pacific Raceways. A huge thanks to Subaru of Bend for your support. And to my tuner/fabricator Joshua MurrayArcflash LLC The young man in my STI is Jesse Webb. Retro Racing and I have been mentoring him the last couple of years. RR is especially good at identifying promising young people and helping them get involved in racing. Jesse is an amazing driver. He started karting as a teenager, late for karting, but did very well. And now at age 18 he's codriving the JMF Motorsports Mercedes AMG GT4 car. And next year it looks like GT3 and possibly a NASCAR seat! He's a name to watch. @jessewebbracing https://www.facebook.com/AMGGT4Car34
12. Qualifying at Pacific Raceways for the Enduro in the Rain. My Subaru of Bend STI excels at rain racing when I have my Continental/Hoosier Wets mounted. I out qualified cars/drivers that I can never beat in the Group 4 race and the Group 8 Enduro in dry conditions, including cars in classes much faster than mine. Earlier I qualified 2nd in the Group 4 qualifier. Only Igor Levine in his yellow Viper beat me there. This video is the Group 8 Enduro qualifier where I ended up 3rd behind Igor again and Todd Clarke in his BMW M3. Lap 5 was my fast lap despite missing a shift at turn 6. And I frequently miss shift at turn 9, going from 3rd to 6th. It's something about the g force and my subconscious telling me not to go from 3rd to 2nd. I'm working on nailing turn 9 since it's the most important corner on the race track. Unfortunately the rain stopped before the afternoon races and the SST- GT1 -SPM cars were back to their usual sports in front of me in my ST class trim.
13. It's Race Time! I've brought the STI out of winter hibernation to attend the ICSCC race at Pacific Raceway this weekend. This will be one of the last times I race the STI, it's going up for sale. If you're interested and in the PacNW you can have a close look at Pacific Saturday & Sunday. The plan is this race, then Portland International next weekend. After that I'll be racing the 818R and a BRZ that is slowly getting closer to completion.
