  1. Is there a reason you NEED the IPT VB mod right now? If there is no urgent need then don't do it. ClimberD is trying to save everybody $769 even if there is no other solution at this moment (but it looks like there is). I can bet that the difference you would feel in the IPT VB would be very similar to the feel you get when resetting your TCU and letting it relearn all of its settings (which you would be doing anyways by disconnecting the VB and battery for the install). Save your money and wait for a better solution.
  2. I always just figured IPT was just placing a resistor and maybe a stiffer spring or two in the valve body. I never even had the urge to buy their valve body when the first few posts I found on it over a year ago had to do with peoples clutches slipping at stage 1 and stage 2. Then when fishbone posted his IPT valve body shift videos, I saw absolutely no difference between his and my stock shifts. I have tried calling Transgo to figure out when they will be releasing the 5EAT kit and they just keep saying "It's on the back burner, it will be a few more months". I would really like to get the Transgo kit for our cars. I am pretty sure that there is not much of a difference between the 350Z kit and ours, but I wouldn't know where to start unless I had the two valve bodies side by side. I have read a few 350Z installs for the Transgo kit and they seem pretty straight forward. I am very temped to buy the 350Z kit and do the install myself. ClimberD, I think you are doing great things here and I wish I had the time to be as involved in it as you are. I really really really would like a better shift and better power holding ability for my car, especially now since I am auto-crossing it. LGT 5EAT car year: 05 IPT VB mod already performed: NO What he said......: Maybe, I would need a quick turnaround and would want to see the results.
  3. Odd, I just pulled up my stock Subaru map and it is 320... hmmmmmmm. Is yours an 05? I don't see why buping yours up higher will hurt anything, I am running less power than most of you guys (Stage 1 tune + downpipe and catback). All I know is after my ECU went through its learning phase, the car shifted great! Kyle
  4. I'm pretty sure the APv1 or any other AP will not do this. You should buy a $20 Vag-Com cable from ebay and download RomRaider to make these changes. You will need an older version of ECUFlash (Version 1.29) to communicate with the Vag-Com cable.
  5. Those are the two same tables I changed in RomRaider. There is nothing about D, S or S manual in anything I have seen. Basically you are adjusting the set values across the board and your TCU will take care of the shift points ect. like it normally does when you switch between modes. Your transmisison will act in the same way, just multiplied in the amount of clamping force (line pressure) that it usually sees.
  6. No, I am talking about the 0-448 in the white blocks. A stock map will be 0-320. DO NOT CHANGE THE 0.00 CELLS OR COLUMNS ON EITHER MAP, you want that to stay the same. please compare my maps to your stock maps before making changes. If you click one cell, hold mouse button and drag across the other cells, you can change multiple cells at once. There is a multiplier function at the top of the RomRaider table that allows you to multiply all selected cells by a given value.
  7. Just wanted to let everybody know that I edited the requested torque table and throttle plate position table within RomRaider and I felt a pretty good difference in shifting yesterday and today. I multiplied the values in the requested torque table by 1.4 or 40% and did the same with the top row of the throttle plate table. I did this because I was going autocrossing today and just wanted a little more security while racing the car. Reviews: After driving around for a while and the ECU had relearned all of its parameters, I went out for a spirited run. The transmission shifts a lot more precise in all modes..... but only when you are getting into the gas... If you are driving around town, it may feel a little different, but not much. I could really feel the difference in Sport Auto and Sport Manual (I don't ever drive in D). Sport Auto still likes to slip the gears and there is still a huge lag between shifts when using Sport Manual..... But when the gear engages it feel really strong!!!! Not that sloppy crap we are used to. I had 6 laps on the course today and the shifts were strong the whole time (I just can't get used to the delay after you hit +, the tranny shifts when it wants to). Even on the way home after all of that racing, the shifts felt really good. I highly recommend doing this on your tunes if you have a Vag-Com or Tactrix cable!!! It not going to chirp your tires or really throw your head back, but it will take out a lot of slop (and hold more powa!). See the attached screen shot below.
  8. List of items to be added to email (will update as thread grows): 1. Line pressure adjustments 2. Shorten shift time at clutches 3. Shorten delay from manual gear selectors 4. Standard units option for us over here in America 5. 6. 7. 8.
  9. Haha, its Kyle, I sort of just fits in the word Legacy. That is definitely a good parameter to look into... The only time I use it in manumatic is when I am at the track because it sucks waiting for the transmission to shift.
  10. No, but I wouldn't mind emailing him. I would want to make sure we have all of the information we need before contacting him. We should make a list of which values are important to us for modifying. Two major parameters I would like to be able to adjust is line pressure and shift time (I don't know what all controls the shift time yet). Also, I would like to see a conversion option in the preferences to switch from metric to standard units (shouldn't be hard at all to add this to the programming). There is also no way to record the values the computer reads into a spreadsheet like RomRaider can, it is basically live feed. It does record the max values a set parameter reaches in a column next to the live feed which can be pretty helpful. Any other ideas? If somebody is comfortable with their programming knowledge, it may be better for you to send an email. Just let me know. I'm a mechanical engineer, not a computer programmer .
  11. I am using the blue ebay VAG-COM cable, it was like $20.
  12. Looking into the 5EAT manual briefly, I found the following descriptions to the values that I have shown on my first screen shot: L/U - Lockup Solenoid P/L - Line Pressure Solenoid???????? I/C - Input Clutch Solenoid F/B - Front Brake Solenoid D/C - Direct Clutch Solenoid H & LR/C - High and Low Reverse Clutch Solenoid I can not find out what P/L stands for though.... I saw that there was some screen shots of the 4EAT guys on that website and it showed line pressure increase... that is what I am looking for. I wonder how hard it would be to work with the guys who created this program to get more adjustments developed for our transmission.
  13. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But, it looks like they don't have much information on the 5EAT. There are a lot of logging parameters but only one adjustment parameter. Take a look at the attached screen shots. Even though all of the values are in metric, the program seems easy to use. It recognizes the VAG COM cable immediately and it also connects right up to the car. I didn't have much time to mess with it (since I have company in from out of town) but I will definitely look into it later. Check these out and let me know your thoughts. Oh, by the way, what is AWD Clutch Torque?????????????
  14. I am going to try this program out tonight with my buddies laptop.... I have Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop and it seems as though it only works on 32 bit. I will report back and let you know.
