  1. Ok so here is what I am doing, I bought a Samsung galaxy tab 2 with 4G off of ebay for $120 (needed one anyway) My plan is to dash mount it with this (because I don't want to lose my little compartment for my sunglasses or do any heavy cutting) I plan to run a dc power cable up to it from the car battery like this one and just break it down and hide it under the dash with the cable running out. I found this program for auto on and off sleep mode for the tab with the car. Now I dont know how to hook it up to my stock Subaru aux line for music. I want to split it into the line at the radio. How do i do that? I know I need to take a splitter and mod it so I can intercept the line and split it. that way I can run music either from the tablet or from the stock aux jack in the little cubby. Anyone know how to split the aux line? Also I am getting a 64 gb sd card for the tab 2. so that and with its internal storage of 16 gbs that plenty of room for the music and apps for me. I also plan on getting the OBDlink MX to work with bluetooth on my tab so I can run torque off of it, and later when someone builds the app for the it to add autostart and that sort of thing (there is a program that does this but that is only for GM's and chevys right now) its this. That will allow me to remote start using my cell talking to my tab through the 4g, or do other interesting things. like look at my car through the camera lol and allow me to have a dashcam and maybe later on a bluetooth backup camera or something or the ability to gps track and kill the car if someone steals it or see who is stealing my car lol. I would like to later on find a way to mount it so it cant be stolen easily. Some sort of lock on a steel mount frame connected to a steel bar/bolt or something running from the top of the little dash compartment and welded to the frame of the car or something that makes it more difficult than smash and grab at least but still removable by me when I want to. Need to find a way to drill a small key lock into a more robust dash mount, but that is a job for another day. Any thoughts on what I am doing?. Always good to get some feedback.
  2. My phone has a Micro USB, Micro HDMI port on it if that helps. The reasoning for this instead of just using a tablet is the fact that everything is already centralized on my phone. It makes far more sense to me to use one device to do everything and just extend from it. All my important data, files and music is in one location easy to update and use where ever I go. Sure there are cloud services that can do this but they are mobile data intensive and data is expensive in canada. If I use a tablet everytime I want to update, change or alter music, important notes or do anything else that involves the changing of librarys I then have to do it on every device I have. I'm trying to minimalist my devices as well. If I get a tablet in my car I know alot of time I will end up reaching for my phone anyway for making calls and doing other things. Another important reason is this way with the OBDlink MX the bluetooth runs just through the phone so I can remote start it from outside the car, get in plug in the phone (which I do anyway) and one or 2 other cables and its all centralized and good to go. I would rather run some cables under the dash to the cupholder bays and mount the display then have to constantly miss out on stuff because my 2 devices are running dif apps and one has a more out to date music list. Might sound crazy to you but I would find that infuriating. Or spending time in my car moving data from and 2 the tablet every time I wanted to update/change things. then I got to worry about the tablets memory and all that, and someone swiping it. but a monitor that is relatively cheap would be fine. if they did steal it really the window they broke is the bigger concern, as there are lots of cheap good res bright monitors coming out of china. Plus tablets dont run direct 12DC so the tablet prob would not have a auto on and auto shutdown feature that most 12v dc monitors can do. Only reason I can think to get a tablet is the battery and the GPS, but who is to say the gps will be better then my phones? and battery I can allways just install one if I cant get a monitor that has a internal one, and I can prob get a better GPS with a good sized antenna on a monitor. anyway that is sort of my viewpoint on it. tablet is good in some ways but in others its sort of a drag. I would rather prefer to use my phone for everything. So I could use the micro HDMI to run the display, I would need a USB to run the touchscreen? can that ever be done through bluetooth or through the HDMI? if not I would need to get power to run back to the device in host mode or get a usb splitter that goes from 1 to 2 and then dock it in that way? Music could just run into the aux as always. as for the mic don't have that figured out yet, if your running touch through USB is that all that USB will do? or can it multitask and run other things through it as well? Now If I can slave a cheap android tablet to my phone that would be something I would consider.... I could get a cheap capable android tablet easy from china for under $50
  3. I am looking to buy a 7" touchscreen monitor for mounting in my car that I can use to control my android Droid 4 phone from. Plan is that I plug my phone into the touchscreen monitor and use it like a car PC. I could then use the phones bluetooth to link up things like a keyboard, OBDLink MX (so I can use the android app for it to see veh performance). Sound can still run though my cars aux like it does right now with my phone or I can link it up another way. If i get this setup it would prob be the most plug and play and most useful car PC's ever. Hopefully I could find a monitor that also has: GPS, Mic (for handsfree talk), internal battery. The monitor should also be 12v DC for easy wiring. So can anyone help provide me with information on how to Vet monitors for use with android? I need to know what sort of features/touchscreen types the monitor would need in order to run my phone from it using the touchscreen. That way I can start effectively vetting monitors online and find the best ones to suit my needs. I cant really get any further without reliable information about how to do this. The droid 4 touchscreen specs are as follows: Display Type TFT capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors Size 540 x 960 pixels, 4.0 inches (~275 ppi pixel density) Multitouch Yes (Ice Cream Sandwich) Any help would be appreciated! Also would I be able to buy a cheap android tablet and run my phones display into it? if that tablet supported multitouch from the phone? that might be another way to get one that has a battery in it. What do you guys think? anyone have any experience with this or good advice?

    Car PC

Yeah it will be a hard fight to find the right monitor that supports android and has the other features I want. IE prob gps, mic, maybe a internal battery and thin and with a good bright anti glare display. there are captive touch and multitouch small monitors on the market but which ones support android is the real question. Im gonna have to post on teh xpda forums and see if i can scrounge up some help. But If i can find a good high res monitor that supports it that I can mount and wire into my car and then just link my phone into while I am driving that would be insanely awsome, esp if I can combine it with the ODBlink MX, would be the ultimate plug and play car package.

    Car PC

How would I make a car PC using a cell phone and a Small display? I mostly want it for when I am traveling and sleeping in the back of my wagon in the summer. You know like I can have the display mounted above the dash and then disconnect it and move it to the cargo hatch of the car. I was thinking I can power my phone the way i do now off the DC outlet and then the monitor off the other DC outlet or with a inverter. I can run a micro HDMI cable from my phones loc to my monitors loc and then I just need a hookup for a keyboard or a bluetooth keyboard. Maybe the monitor should be touchscreen as well? anybody done anything like this? seems like it might be easier and cell phones are getting pretty powerful nowadays. My droid 4's specs are thus TI OMAP4430 Processor:Dual core, 1200 MHz, ARM Cortex-A9 Graphics processor:PowerVR SGX540 @ 304 MHz System memory:1024 MB RAM / 16384 MB ROM Built-in storage:8 Gb Storage expansion:microSD, microSDHC up to 32 GB Battery Talk time:12.50 hours the average is 12 h (746 min) Stand-by time:8.5 days (204 hours the average is 21 days (494 h) Capacity:1785 mAh
