  1. The antenna wiring goes through the boot on the drivers side. Good luck... Cheers, Mike
  2. I first posted my problems in this thread back in 2012 and I was told the wires were replaced when I hired the dealership to fix the problems. Well, all they did was what most are doing here with patch work repairs. Albeit, I think you guys are doing a much better job then what the dealership. I just ordered the entire "cord" bundle of all the wires from "https://www.partswebsite.com/subarugenuineparts/" and is costing me $83 including WA State Tax and shipping. I'll to the removal and install of the new cord myself and have found a couple threads over on the Subaru Outback forums with some help. Just to put info in one place...the part number for the cord wiring is 81812AG03B. Cheers, Mike
  3. My power steering was whining, losing a little fluid and lots of foam in the fluid. I just replaced my o-ring but got A close matching one from my local garage I can walk to. The old one did feel a little stiff but not to the point of breaking. Thanks for the above part number...I may swing by the dealership and just pick one up in case this one doesn't work. No need to bleed the power steering or anything... Cheers, Mike
  4. Congrats and quick healing CL21376... Cheers, Mike
  5. I am a lucky husband and dad... 2 weekends ago, my Mrs entered a sprint triathlon and won her division. My two daughters (12 & 16 y.o.) instantly had a new hero when they heard she had won. The looks in their eyes of admiration and wow was inspiring to them. My youngest daughter won their select soccer tournament this last weekend with my daughter scoring the first goal in the final match. My oldest daughter now has a good paying job and is starting to pay for her own auto bills(gas & insurance). She also just had her first high school swim practice and came home beaming with pride over the fact that she is now faster then almost all on the swim team. Both are honors students and love to play music as well. My oldest plays the flute while my youngest plays the trumpet and taught herself(big sis helped a lot) how to play the tenor sax over the summer... Tomorrow is our 21st wedding anniversary...Cool, eh? I am a lucky husband and dad... Cheers, Mike
  6. ^^ Not sure which is worse...we talked about trying to zip tie his rear cassette to his spokes but figured that the zip ties would fail pretty quickly. The fixie might be tough on some of the technical DH portions as you'd have to keep peddling... One thing is for sure...there is no way to do a trailside fix for a free hub. Glad you guys made it out too. Beer note...funny...he drove so I brought the beer. Cheers, Mike
  7. Funny...my riding buddy this weekend had his free hub go a little too free. Complete failure. We had already done 20 miles of a 30 mile ride up here near Seattle. Luckily, we could get back on the forest service road and I towed m back the final 10 miles. I'm still recovering. Cheers, Mike
  8. Each of my parents are now on their third significant other...I've seen lots of messed up ways to treat others. Rather then let their bad relationship habits be repeated by me, I seeked out help through counseling to work being a better person, husband, friend, and parent. I think what KRB has some validity but one never knows just how long it takes to be in a solid relationship before having kids. One thing I know is that we'll never be perfect parents and my parenting job is partly to reduce the amount of counseling they'll need as adults. Meaning...I hope I didn't mess them up like I was ;-) We have two beautiful daughters...16 & 11 that are honors students, love sports and music. The 16 year old also drives our old 4Runner which is a manual drive. Save the manual! They are pretty even keeled kids that don't get caught up in the overtly dramatized world of today. A quick parenting example that came up last night...my oldest is on the high school swim team which is just forming for next falls season. The swimmers want to setup a swim team Facebook thingy...no biggie...except the kids are saying no parent access allowed. We've always operated that parents can do random checks of electronics, internet, facebook, etc...just to make sure everything is going smoothly. Nothing is being overused and their are no weird stalkers or anything. So, back to swimming...the swimmers want to state their independence from their parents from banning them this Facebook page which is a bit petty but understandable. The other swim parents are very controlling and overbearing. Our daughter first fought for us to have access, which made her out to be an outcast. We decided that it was more important to keep her in good standings with her friends by not friending or liking or whatever to give us access. But, asked that she come to us if things get awkward, or uncomfortable on this facebooky thingy. She thought that was a great idea and the team is creating their facebooky page. Anyways, I just wanted to share a small snip of our parenting of a teenager. Cheers, Mike
  9. The mrs and I have both read the book...Brain Rules. http://brainrules.net/ Lots of good stuff in there to help understand what's going on in a teenagers rapidly changing mind. On the note of offering of reading suggestions to your daughter...I've got two (11yr & 16yo)...offer the idea to them in a way so it becomes their idea. If they still say nah...be thankful their are able to form their own opinion and trust you enough to express their opinion. Suggestion of how to get something to be more their idea... Parent - "Can I make a suggestion of a new book?" If the kiddo says yes..."I found XYZ book interesting because of this or that plot and characters. Let me know if you would like to read it...I'm almost done with it." if kiddo says no...then accept it and move on. Cheers, Mike
  10. I've got two daughters, 16 & 11. We are so proud of them. Honors students, enjoy sports, and musicians... Our goal as parents was to help them be confident strong loving kids(ie better then us). I got snipped soon after our second daughter was born. All the sports & music costs get expensive but keeps them from getting into big trouble. A neighbor was told me years ago...kids will cost you...you either pay to keep them in activities or you pay for their rehab. ;-) My 16 yr old daughter helped me change the oil in our 98 4Runner yesterday. She was able to notice the difference in having fresh oil in the engine with 225,000 miles. :-) Cheers, Mike
  11. Wires breaking in the rubber wire cover between rear hatch and body have caused me many headaches... It first started with my rear wiper intermitten not working properly. I first replaced the wiper motor which I did myself. Did not fix it... I replaced the wiper switch on the steering column. Did not fix it... Dealership fixed it by replacing wires for $100 (mostly labor as I didn't want to mess with removing headliner). A couple weeks go by, the wires go out for the radio antenna...ugh. Got it fixed too at dealership. Subaru really went cheap on these wires and have caused all sorts of headaches. Well documented over on the Outback forums. My recommendation would be to replace all the wires at once when you have everything opened up. Good luck... Cheers, Mike
  12. ^^ Yes, Yakima and Thule will both work fine on the Mont Blanc bars. I have both on mine. Let me know if you want pictures. Cheers, Mike
