  1. Not sure I can help much, but you can use a multimeter to do a continuity check on the bulbs to see if they're good or not. You said your DRLs still work, so to me that means the bulbs are good. I believe 2005 through 2007 cars use the low beams for DRLs, in 2008 Subaru changed to using the high beams. I'm a big fan of using junkyards for parts, but the problem is with certain things (like electronics) you don't know if the part you're getting is any better than the one on your own car. I don't know enough about the DRL module to say much else, but if the bulbs and fuses are good, then I'm not sure what else it might be. And it's not unheard of for both headlights to go out at the same time. I've had that happen once, one headlight burnt out and before I could pick up replacements, the other went a day or two later. 2 to 3 years is what I typically get out of a new bulb, and yes, it's good practice to replace both at the same time. But again, if your DRLs still work, then the bulbs aren't the problem.
  2. I appreciate all the work involved getting the forum switched over. Quite a change, I like it so far!
  3. I've been looking thru the '06 manuals, and can't find anything on how to change the date.... I've attached 2 images from the "monitor system" manual. My guess is to hit the right-most button under the screen (button 5 in the first image), then press "calendar" on the screen, followed by "setup" as shown in the second image. I don't see anything in the manual where it shows what options there are when you click "setup" but I don't really see where else it might be.
  4. Oops! I think you meant May 2006 and Oct 2004. Mine was built in August 2004. That's pretty crazy yours was still on the lot in '06. I know down here in Atlanta, Subarus weren't selling well at that time, I think everybody equated all wheel drive with snow. For a few years after I bought mine, I'd go 2 or 3 weeks without seeing another Subaru of any kind, and when I did it was usually a WRX. On the other hand, I was in NY (where I grew up) in 2006, and like every 9 out of 10 cars were Subarus. But still, Legacies were somewhat rare, and even moreso Legacy GTs, especially the wagons. The dealer I bought mine from was (still is, actually) a Cadillac and Subaru dealer, and anytime I went there, it always felt like the Subaru part was just an afterthought, Cadillac was definitely their focus. Nowadays, there are Subarus everywhere around here, mostly Outbacks, Forresters, and Crosstreks. Still very few Legacies. I think I paid $26k for mine in '04. I still have the window sticker and paperwork around somewhere, and actually I probably still have the quote from the dealer in an email. Mine is also unlimited, and had four options, auto-dimming rear view mirror, all weather floor mats, subwoofer, and the cross bars for the roof rails (I never understood why you had to pay extra to get the bars...).
  5. I'm the original owner of my '05 LGT wagon. Bought it in October, 2004. I had found it online, and when I went to look at it, it was in the dealership's "back lot" still wrapped in plastic, with a whole 2 miles on the odometer. The fuel in the tank was likely what it had left the factory with, as the first thing we had to do on the test drive was stop at the closest gas station! Has been my daily driver since day 1, and has treated me well for 160,000 miles.
  6. I have two places I recommend in the North Metro Atlanta, GA area without hesitation. Not only would I take my car to either place, they are the only places I do take my car. The first is actually a dealership (yes, really). Subaru of Kennesaw The last service rep I dealt with was Stephen Barnes 905 Ernest Barrett Pkwy NW Kennesaw, GA 30144 https://www.subaruofkennesaw.com/ 888-653-1482 They really know their stuff here, and don't try to play any games. They've done quite a bit of maintenance and repair items on my car over the years, including both airbag recalls. Their service prices aren't bad, though the parts counter prices tend to run a bit high. I have not bought a car from them, but 2 family members and at least 1 friend have, and all had a good buying experience. I've been going there since they opened in 2008. The second is an independent shop, Allpro Subaru Brandon, Stephen, or Patrick is who I've dealt with 1020 Nine North Dr. Alpharetta, GA 30004 https://allprosubie.com/ 770-751-7786 Brandon is the owner and lead mechanic. He is a Subaru trained mechanic who started out in a dealership and then decided to go out on his own. They really know Subarus here, and have very competitive pricing. I tend to think of them as a performance shop, but they can do any kind of repair and maintenance item as well. They've done a little of everything on my car, from uppipe, downpipe, and intercooler, to clutch, timing belt, struts, and spark plugs. They've been open since 2009, I think I started going there in 2011.
  7. I don't have any experience with a '17 radio, but I'm going to guess there is no way to change how the files are shuffled. I recently had a similar experience with the aftermarket Kenwood radio in my '05 Legacy, however. I discovered that the radio was only able to access files on my flash drive from artists beginning with A thru P. I had my flash drive set up as X:\artist\album\trackname.mp3 Basically what I found out is my radio can only access a maximum of 250 folders, and I had over 300 artist folders, so the folders (and the files in them) beyond the 250 were just ignored. I'm not sure if that's what you're experiencing or not. I did find the owner's manual for 2017, and it indicates the radio can access a max of 512 folders. And each folder can have a max of 255 files, and the radio can handle up to 8000 total files on the flash drive. So not sure if this helps or not. In my own case, what I did for now was to create "master" folders on the flash drive, such as x:\folder1 x:\folder2 x:\folder3 x:\folder4 and put 900 files in each folder; I can have a max of 999 files in each folder. This means if I ever wanted to manually find a particular song to play, it would be very difficult, but I don't think I've ever done that, I just keep it on random and let it rip. At least with that folder layout I know all songs are accessible to be played. If all that doesn't help, then I'm not sure.... I have experienced other radios that tended to "randomly" pick the same songs to play. I even seem to remember that happening with a 12 disc CD changer. Whatever the algorithm was the system used, it would just tend to select the same songs over time. Nothing you can do about that, I don't think.
  8. You're welcome! Very happy to hear the correct clock unit solved your issue! I don't want to get off-topic in this thread, I'll reply to your headlight issue in the other thread you posted in.
  9. Well, I am very glad you seem to have figured it out. I almost suggested that maybe your airbag warning light was on because the passenger airbag indicator had gone missing! I would have meant it as a joke, but I guess that’s actually what happened. Now it all makes sense. Yes, it is often missed that the ‘05 cars are different from ‘06 and up when it comes to the passenger airbag indicator. As far as I know it applies to both the Legacy and Outback. Technically, both the 2005 Legacy and 2005 Outback are identical (well except for the suspension), but 2005 was the beginning of the 4th generation for the Legacy and 3rd generation for the Outback, as the Outback didn’t arrive until the 2nd generation of the Legacy... There was a small discussion not too long ago about the differences between the 2005 and 2006 cars... Oh, here it is if you’re interested: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/easy-spot-differences-between-2005-and-2006-gt-wagon-286304.html It is interesting that you found out the wiring plug from the ‘05 car fits the ‘06+ clock unit. I now see your posts from August about this, I must have missed them or I would have said something sooner. Good luck, and please post when you get the correct clock unit installed!
  10. My 2005 actually does have 3157 CK sockets for the front turn signals. I found that out years ago when I tried to put in regular 3157 LEDs, and started blowing fuses. I'm not an electrical expert, but the pins are arranged differently between regular 3157 and the 3157 CK bulbs, as shown in the link provided above. When there's an incandescent bulb in the socket, no big deal, but when you put a 3157 LED in a 3157 CK socket, or vice versa I guess, it doesn't work. I've heard of people taking a 3157 LED bulb and physically bending the pins to rearrange them to the CK format, but I would think it would be easier to just buy the CK bulbs. The CKs are a little hard to find, but they are out there. I am currently using these: https://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/miniature-and-subminiature-bulbs/3156-3157-ck-led-bulb-dual-function-27-smd-led-tower-wedge-retrofit/3557/ and they are very bright and work well. As has already been suggested, I would replace the blown fuse(s), put the non LEDs back in, and make sure everything is good. Then you can get a set of 3157 CK LEDs.
  11. Realized that yesterday was the day I bought my wagon.... 17 years ago! I can't believe it's been that long. Car is starting to show its age a little, but holding up fairly well. Gave it a quick bath, and tried to take a couple of good shots; I think this is the best one.
  12. Well, I just went out and played with mine, and it did not behave the way I described. Today it's about 85 degrees outside, and my car had been sitting in the driveway all day. And I did not go for a drive, the car was just parked, idling. When I first started it, it of course wasn't generating any heat, and I could go from 65 to 85 with pretty much no difference. After a few minutes, the antifreeze started warming up, and the temp gauge began moving up. At this point, I could go from 65 to 84 with not much difference in the cool air coming into the cabin. At 85, it went to full hot air blowing out. All this was with the a/c turned on. I didn't think to turn off the a/c just to see what would happen. And it might have behaved different if I was driving, I know the a/c puts out colder air when the compressor's not just running at idle speed.
  13. Is this with the HVAC in manual or auto mode? I'd have to double check, but I'm pretty sure mine has always acted this way in manual mode. If I use the a/c in manual mode down here (Atlanta, GA) in the summer, I just have to keep in on 65, because anything else I get too warm. In auto mode, however, I can put it on any temperature, and it will generally cool correctly, although when it's 95 outside and I put it on anything lower than probably 78, it will never get the inside of the car down to that temperature. In the winter time, in manual mode with the a/c off, setting it to 65 will result in cold outside air being brought in, and putting it to 66 will make it warm enough that I start to roast. So, while I'm driving, I'm constantly switching it back and forth between 65 and 66. If I put it in auto mode, than I can usually keep in on 66-68 and be comfortable. Although, if I start the car when the car is cold, and put it in auto, and set it to 67, at the first sign of heat being generated, the fan will kick into high and just completely blast warm air until the interior temp gets near 67, and then the fan will slow down, and the air temp will be adjusted accordingly; but in the meantime, I've already gotten WAY too warm. Generally what I do is set it to auto, set it to 67, and once the fan kicks into high speed, I'll put the fan down a few notches. By just changing the fan speed, the rest of the system stays in auto and will maintain the proper temp, I just don't get blasted with warm air in the process. As you probably know, in manual mode, the number reading has nothing to do with the actual temperature, it's supposed to act as a scale, with 65 being coldest and 85 being warmest. But to me, the scale isn't very accurate, it's like instead of it going 65, 66, 67, 68, etc., increasing in small increments, it goes something like 65, 75, 85. (Maybe that's a little exaggerated, but you get the idea.) Well, sorry for rambling..... I can check mine out tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure it acts the way you are describing. At least in manual mode. If you're in auto mode and it's doing that, than I'm not too sure. Oh, and check this out if you haven't already: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/dual-zone-climate-control-works-6515.html
  14. Not sure I can help too much..... the 2005 cars do not have the passenger airbag indicator in the overhead console, only the passenger seat belt reminder is up there. The passenger airbag light should be under the center cubby, in the display with the clock, I have never heard of an '05 car not having that light. I have attached a pic of my own car, as well as the page from the owner's manual showing it, just as a reference. From my research, when the airbag light under the tach/temp gauge comes on in an '05 car, there is an actual fault in the system somewhere, and has nothing to do with the overhead console. In my case, I had the light come on a few years ago, and it was due to something with the airbag module in the steering wheel going bad. I don't remember exactly what it was, but the solution was to replace the module itself. The light in the speedo cluster is tied to all the airbags and sensors in the system, as well as the front seat beat pretentioners, so the fault could be any number of things. As for whether the airbags will still work or not, I was told years ago that if the warning light was on, that meant the system would be deactivated. However, the owner's manual indicates that the system is still active, but may not operate correctly: "If the warning light exhibits any of the following conditions, there may be a malfunction in the seatbelt pretensioners and/or SRS airbag system. Immediately take your vehicle to your nearest SUBARU dealer to have the system checked. Unless checked and properly repaired, the seatbelt pretensioners and/or SRS airbags will operate improperly (e.g. SRS airbags may inflate in a very minor collision or not inflate in a severe collision), which may increase the risk of injury. - Flashing or flickering of the indicator light - No illumination of the warning light when the ignition switch is first turned to the “ON” position - Continuous illumination of the warning light - Illumination of the warning light while driving" I would certainly recommend taking your car to a dealer; they should be able to pull any codes from the airbag system and track down what the problem is.
  15. I've had the Borla on my LGT wagon since 2007, and I've never had any ground clearance issues, though my car is not lowered at all. I like to do some lite off-roading on unpaved forest service roads in the north Georgia mountains, and it has never scraped. Also been on road trips with 4 people in the car and 4 bikes on the hitch mounted bike rack, and no issues there either. Now, I do scrape the trailer hitch once in a while, but that's another story.... I've never minded how the tips don't protrude out through the wagon bumper, I think it looks fine. See this thread from many years ago for some pics I had put up: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/wagons-borla-cbei-145779.html As for sound, as has been discussed, everyone has their own opinions. For me, when I first installed my Borla cat-back, the front part of the exhaust was all stock. It was certainly louder than the factory cat-back system, but not by much. Years later, I ran a cat-less downpipe for a short time, and that was really loud. I am currently running a Cobb catted downpipe, and I think it's pretty much the perfect loudness. Inside the car, while the sound is noticeable, it's still no problem to listen to the radio or have a conversation with other people in the car. I've also never had any droning in the wagon, even at highway speeds. From outside the car, it is not crazy loud, but it does get noticed. None of my neighbors have complained, but many have said how good it sounds. I've been flagged down while driving (once by 2 paramedics in an ambulance!) usually by people who have no idea what kind of car it is, and they want to know what's under the hood and what kind of exhaust it is. And to me, that's what makes the Borla system different. No other exhaust that I've heard makes the same tones as it does. I've always heard good things about Borla's customer service, although I've never had to contact them. See this thread as an example - it also has a pic of what it looks like if you have the tips extended: https://legacygt.com/forums/showthread.php/borla-shoutout-warranty-coverage-280396.html Well, just my 2 cents, FWIW. I certainly have enjoyed the Borla on my car. And no, I am not a paid spokesperson, LOL.
