Legacy reasons cheaper insurance more practical for everyday driving sweeeeet looking luxurious and list goes on and on
Are you sure the insurance will be cheaper?
It should be, Dr. Z. Don't forget that the STi has the WRX's loss history also working against it, not to mention its horsepower rating. I believe it is classified as a "sports car," by the insurance folks. The Legacy should also be less expensive than an STi, which means that comprehensive won't cost as much, either. But come to think of it, my insurance (first year) didn't change much when I traded the GT wagon for the WRX wagon. It did go up last year, however, but we fixed the deductible, and now that I'm driving less than 7K miles per year, it's lower still. Really, though...the Legacy should be less to insure than the STi. :D Kevin

The STi yes, but I really don't think it will be much cheaper than the WRX. If anything the fact that the legacy will attract an older more mature crowd might impact rates. I hope that a bunch of boy racers don't go out and buy the new GT and give us more responsible ;) drivers a bad name.

^ i'm with statefarm and i got quote from my agent and he said 2 or 4 door doesn't matter for statefarm. and it costs a lot cause it's been out for like a year and there's tons records of accidents involved STi.... Legacy is not a sports car it's a family car just like Audi A4 1.8T its turbo but its considered as family car

Weird, I thought I already put in my unimportant opinion. Legacy because it's almost as fast with nearly the same potential. This is a free car, so money spent on buying the car goes towards mods. As for insurance, it could be lower than the WRX. Given the likely older age of the drivers, bigger bumpers which better fare better in 5mph incidents. They fricken better!

This car will be in the 3.0L A4 and G35 category at the onset (one category below the WRX STI), and then the car will have several slight discounts due to AWD and the full modern airbag systems standard. Also Geico told me my rates would not really change from what I am paying now (IS300) from their preliminary ratings for the new Legacy that they have under review. So far it looks like this car will not be in the WRX STI category...it will be in what is called the "near-luxury mid-sized sedan" category with a benefit from a "lower than peers replacement price" (the insurance company must have some data showing a much lower initial purchase price for the Legacy over the 3.0L A4 and the G35...GOOD!). Sounds like initial insurance rates will be favorable...much lower than the S60R rates I was shopping last month when I almost bought a new S60R (about 50% to 100% higher than what I was paying for my IS300, were the S60R quotes I received).

Age 39 for me and my wife is 26 (no tickets or accidents...Texas based policy), and we pay about $90 a month for full coverage with $500/$500 deductibles and full coverage (uninsured, underinsured, glass, rentals, towing) through Geico. I have not found anyone even close to them when I shop insurance rates once a year (no homeowners policy discount for this vehicle...to help you compare). This is for a "02" IS300 5 spd AT with standard equipment (no additional add-ons covered).

I think that the Legacy drivers are generally going to be a more mature lot, even if they aren't chronologically older. I certainly hope that I'm not overestimating my fellow man. I know that wagon drivers for sure won't be stuffing any Legacies. Kevin

Which car would I rather have? Definitely the GT. I'm 31, and I'm ready for a slightly more plush experience. The STi is a fantastic car, but I like the balance (in comfort vs. performance) of the GT better. If you're asking which car I'd take as a prize though, then it would be whichever cost more. If it's the STi, then I'd take the STi and sell it and pocket the difference after buying a GT.

i think you're comparing two very different demographics. (and likely price ranges as well) the legacy should come in around $36K given all the trimmings they're adding. and the STi will be going for invoice plus ($29K?) the trim level, ride etc will be much different. SOA is touting the Legacy GT to be a "detuned STi platform" dR

Silly poll. This is a Legacy site. Post that poll in the STi forum on NASIOC and see the opposite results. I had a deposit on a WRX STi but when the JDM Legacy was announced I told the dealer to hang onto the $$$, guarenteeing me the #1 car, until the USDM comes out in 2004. I have no regrets about waiting. :D
