Is there going to be an aftermarket?

Seeing how popular the Legacy is in Japan and more importantly, the modding popularity amid more amazing car choices, I think it's safe to say it will be popular with the tuners. Until the next Impreza comes out, I think that the Legacy is going to steal the show next to the STi.

In Japan they (turbo Legs) have sold 2:1 over WRXs. While I am not exactly sure how the US performance crowd will take the new Legacy 2.5GT, I do think if the price is within $2k for the base GT to the WRX models, the real performance individuals will see the 2.5GT turbos real capabilities and advantages.

If the Legacy GT has a similar ECU to the '04 WRX, which is proving rather difficult to mod (power-wise), those tuners might find themselves being frustrated, which wouldn't exactly bum me out. My nightmare is seeing a Legacy GT sedan rolling toward me, bouncing on too-low springs, loud BOV blasting away, lighted wiper nozzles and twin grapefruit shooters hanging from the back. Let those people buy WRXes, IMHO. Yes, it's snobbish. I admit it. :D For me, if Subaru offers things for the Legacy GT, I will consider them, but that's it. My experience with Subaru-sourced "aftermarket" bits vs aftermarket stuff from other sources makes that a no-brainer for me. Kevin

I don't think we'll see much of that for the first several years as it isn't a low-buck car, but you can always be amazed. As per the 04 WRX comment, Cobb had reflash technology out for that some months back. If you are talking about the STi and the FXT ECUs, it might be a few more months, but it will be out. Really, the reflashes are one of the best mods, particularly for drivability. One of the best and funniest things to me is: you know how intakes aren't recommended on WRXs under 300 or 350hp as the stock intake flows well for that kind of power, well people that havn't done intake mods, their cars run like champs, those that have, they run like crap. The people with just intakes on WRXs you can tell are rice!
If prices are similar to what you have proposed, it is only about a $1000 jump from WRX to the Legacy. Don't compare a LTD since the WRX doesn't get those options. I'm just hoping that the boy racer image sticks to the Impreza as well. Hopefully there will be enough of the "kids" that turn up their nose at the Legacy not being hardcore enough that it won't be a problem.

I know, they all want these luxo cars. Give me the no frills sports sedan (I like the availability of the occasional ride with a few others.) Plus it fits all the race gear nicely. :D No bling for me. :P

Honestly all I am really looking for is a reflash or something of that nature. I don't think that the GT will have an uppipe w/ cat, but if there is one then that will be promptly removed in addition to the reflash. I am going to keep this car sleeper for quite a while.
You forgot the lights in the intercooler scoop and neons.
Where is the vomit smiley when you need it? I stepped out of conversations on nasioc with kids arguing that neon truly is cool and tasteful. Aside from neon taillights on a Z8, they are wrong. Under the scoop=bad. K.I.T. is dead. Don't resurrect it. Neon to light up your floorboard is no better. Why drive down the road with lights INISDE the car? Nothing like making it harder to drive at night.
People make pimp-mobiles out of just about any car. :(
Funniest thing I've seen around here is a GMC Yukon (big SUV) pimped out and lowered so much the middle of the chassis scraped sparks going over the crown of road in a local intersection!

Nice idea for an order. I figure the cheap and noticeable diffence mod. I'm thinking maybe these in order: 1) up & down pipes 2) swaybars? 3) tires (might as well use up the stock tires a bit) 4) brake lines & maybe pads 5) mid-pipe & mufflers 6) XEDE, ECUtek, whatever Maybe a year later: 7) possible coilovers/STi suspension 8) 18" wheels/tires
I really hope that this car is going to have and aftermarket so i could compete with my friends. My goal is to keep up with a Supra, 2 350z's,Lexus IS, Mazdaspeed Protege, and a WRX. all of these cars are going to be slightly moded
The GT will dog the mazdaspeed, WRX, and IS. It will take the 350z, and NA Supra or 300Z (turbo models were faster, more like Vette range). As far as aftermarket, the 2.5T is already seeing some stuff in the XT, with only 6-mo. under its belt. My guess is several mild mods will be available (intercooler, reflash) within a year of debut. The aggressive tune with the variable valving and low-lag turbo will make easy cheap mods more difficult.

I love hypothesizing mods! :D My total list in no particular order thus far if I get the new GT (depends on AutoX rules for 05): -Upgraded AS tires on stock wheels (probably PZero Nero M&S or better) once the RE92s vaporize -A set of 17 or 18" Prodrive P1 or PFF7, Detroit F1's (powerdercoated Bronze), or GT Spec B wheels -Upgraded non-metallic brake Pads & Stoptech Stainless Lines -STi Sport Springs -Hollow upgraded sway bars (possibly) -STBs possible -AccessECU w/ AccessPort -Catless or gutted up-pipe if cat present -Stainless Turbo-Back with high-flow cat If I really want to go over the top... -Upgrade to a nice 320-375chp capable ball-bearing turbo w/ associating fuel injectors, fuel pump & intercooler
My order of mods: 1) BOV 2) Uppipe 3) downpipe 4) headers 5) turbo back exhaust
Of course you can do what you want, but I would suggest going to another Subaru site (nasioc has the most technical info) and research the value of BOV and headers. It's fun to kick around ideas, and there's plenty of time to research and see if things sound if its the route you really want to take.

The BOV and Headers are really unnecessary until real prostigious amounts of power are made. A good turbo-back (includes the downpipe, midpipe, resonator pipe, and backbox/muffler), along with a catless up-pipe, and a good ECU reflash should really bring the wolf to this sheeps clothing. The engine management is BY FAR one of the biggest deals. Just had a thread on the Cobb WRXFroum about this earlier. Someone had swapped the VF39 on his STi for an AVO450, and a bunch of other stuff but no engine management. He was making like 400hp but 269lb-ft of torque IIRC. He didn't think engine management would do anything. It is by far one of the most important mods! Now reflashed don't work best for everyone, but for most applications they just take the hands-on approach out of the game and for many thats a great thing. Thats a big deal why I'm a bit biased towards them. Not to mention they're rather inexpensive and well tuned when used with the suggested list of associating parts, but do listed to the vendors when they suggest certain mods for certain maps.
