SUBE555
Need I say more. Talk is that we may even recieve a manual with the new EZ30 H6 engine in the next couple model years, but will it make it to the Legacy line, or just outback line? EJ20H-TT
It does exist The Legacy 3.0R, powered by the same 182kW 3.0 litre boxer six as the newly arrived Outback, has just gone on sale in Europe, and is expected to arrive in New Zealand showrooms in April. However, those wanting a manual gearbox will have to wait a bit longer, as three-pedal versions of the 3.0R won’t arrive until 2005. A five-speed automatic gearbox will be the only transmission choice in the interim. The car uses a similar chassis set-up to the turbocharged Legacy GT, with quality Bilstein dampers, 215/45ZR17 tyres and a lower ride height. Brit journos have been fulsome in their praise of the newest Legacy, with one comparing it to the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, and hailing it as “the best-balanced car in its class”. SUBE555
Guess I'm talking about the USDM. This may be a bit more of an international board that I'm used to.
EJ20H-TT
Sure but you would think if they have the version for Europe the US will get it in time.
SUBE555
Never know what they really want to do. Would have been nice that when they dropped the SVX, they would have dropped the EG33 into the LegacyGT at that time. Then they would have known people would have liked to have some guts in those cars. Unfortunately it likely still wouldn't have gotten a manual tranny with it though. GBY
This may be a bit more of an international board that I'm used to.
The new Legacy is available overseas but not yet in the US. I for one appreciate the input.
Tide
The Legacy has a much larger following overseas due to the better versions floating around over there. Since the US market will mostly be last in getting the latest models, what's available in the rest of the world is a decent barometer of at least whats possible out there. I could see a 3.0 for '06 depending on sales. Although it is a bit confusing having 3 engines in one line of cars.
legacy2ner
Since i want the faster legacy and i live in the US what would you guys suggest i do. Get the GT 2.5 Turbo or wait for the 3.0R. I want the fastest out of the two. And is it better to wait and see how the car performes in magazines and other sources or to just buy it as soon as it comes out. Tide
You should see the new 3.0R engine in the upcoming Outback, due to be officially announced for the US market in about 3-4 weeks. I don't think the 3.0 will be faster than the 2.5, just a smoother car since its not a turbo. The 2.5 would most likely be the most tunable for great aftermarket options. EJ20H-TT
Remember the flat 6 will weight more than the flat four turbo so less performance. Handling the flat four will have better weight distribution. As Tide says the Turbo will be much easier to get more power if u need/want it. I'm sure some tuners will offer aftermarket cheap power mods.
SUBE555
One more thing about the H6 is that I'm told it actually costs more than the dressed turbo motors. Just think of the extras in there, longer crank, more valvetrain, extra pistons and conrods, etc, etc. The 2.5GT will be the more tunable motor, but I can see the EZ30 as a bit more smooth for the more luxurious rides. To extract decent amounts of power from the EZ30, a full valvetrain upgrade would be needed, cams at bare minimum. Consider this, the new composite manifold appears to be well designed, so basically a cold-air intake perhaps; there are no headers, just a single exhaust port from each head, so perhaps upgrading to one larger single high-flow cat, or one per head (the closer to the head, the better for cat efficiency), and more straight-through exhaust past the cat as well of optimum diameter. To really get decent gains, full headwork would be needed. Thus turbo being the optimal motor to tune for power. That doesn't mean I am all against NA though. I'd love to see what they could pull out of the EZ30 still with decent torque but a good deal more hp.

SUBE555
Check this out, the new EZ30 motor gets headers again! The headers look pretty fluid, I'd just imagine the cat section and cat-back could be the areas of the exhaust to gain a bit of power, not to mention a good CAI or at least better piping at minimum. Its more exciting as the days go on. :D The performance side is really starting to show itself.

SUBE555
Do you have to turbo everything? No. I'm not convinced the NA H6 will even handle much boost with the block specifications.
babeatto
Hi there, I'm new to this, it may sound like a stupid question. But does anyone know if this 3.0R bumper would fit the USDM Legacy 2.5i? I would love to have this bumper as one of my first mods. Getting the bumper won't be that hard, but knowing if it fits will  Thanks! SUBE555
The EDM models I believe use the shorter bumper same as those from Asia. It would probably require a different bumper beam. There has been debate over it. Best asking in the 2005 Legacy section as you will get the most response in there. Welcome to the forum. :)
Tide
I think any decent body shop could easily make it fit, but it's doubtful it will simply 'bolt-on' in your garage.

Kaiser
Went in to Docklands Subaru in Melbourne, Australia yesterday... they had a brand new Liberty (Legacy) 3.0R Spec B (6-Speed Manual) sitting on the showroom floor that had just been delivered the day before. Had a look under the bonnet, and lo and behold ... the inlet manifold was shiny black plastic ... just like the cheaper models in the range. Looking through the newly printed brochure, it looks like even the GT model is getting the plastic intake manifold as well, though it is hard to tell from cutaway pictures...
