I'm going on Wednesday to catch a couple of Champions League matches at a pub (either one downtown, or one in Morton Grove) that is showing the games through the Setanta Sports pub channel. Specifically, Arsenal v Bayern Munich, Juventus v Real Madrid, and AC Milan v Manchester United.
Although the Arsenal jersey I'll be sporting will be the major clue of my desires for the first match, I'll be pulling for Real in the second, and AC Milan in the third.
Anyone interested can either post here, or PM me.
Cheers,
Kevin

Im interested. I was in Ireland for the entire Euro 04 and it was great!! Watching professionals gives you a new respect for the game. I played in HS, college and I still play in a league.
I would prefer the Morton Grove location but what “downtown” bar are you talking about? I know the restaurants/ bars on Devon carry the game.

I wish I lived closer to you guys. :(
I wished I lived further away
FWIW - DC United is one of my customers (we provide their phone service). I have bailed out their telecom mgr. a few teams - he owes me tickets. If anybody wants tickets, I can prolly swing something.

P.S. I saw River vs. Boca Jrs. at Boca Stadium in Buenos Aires two years ago. Sweet!! :D

Fado, at 100 W. Grand Ave. They have a better Setanta package than Champs (I think that's the Morton Grove one...). The other complexity is if I go to the downtown one, I can just walk over after work. If I go to Morton Grove, I have to take the train home, get the car, etc, etc. I'm going to call both of them on Monday, and see who has all three games, as sometimes bars have music, etc.
My biggest problem is with two full-time soccer channels, and a dual-tuner DVR, I can record Fox Soccer and GolTV simultaneously. Some weekends, I never leave home. It's pretty crazy to be able to see EPL, then Ligue 1, then Serie A, then La Liga. These are great days, until the sport gets sufficiently popular that they can start going to pay-per-view, as they do in Europe. There is NO non-PPV soccer on TV in France, except for national team matches.

If I was anywhere near you Kevin I'd be there but I'd have at least one eye on the rugby at the other end of the pub ;)

Looks like Fado, at 100 W. Grand. None of the other north or nw suburban spots on the Setanta Sports list are showing the matches. Arsenal v Bayern is on at 4 p.m., and then it's Real Madrid v Juventus at 6 p.m.. Both should be brilliant matches. Arsenal got a 3-1 spanking, but the away goal (at Bayern) means that if they can win 2-0, they win on goal diffrential, as Champions League weights away goals more than home goals. So technically, Arsenal have a two-goal deficit. But with Henry nursing an achilles...
Real should dispatch Juventus without much difficulty, particularly with the incredible Zidane at full strength. There are also reports that Ronaldo finally has his head back in the right place.
I'm geeked. If anyone wants to find me, I'll be at Fado. Look for the pogoing brother sporting the long-sleeved Arsenal home jersey.

Anyone catch the Chelsea v FC Barcelona match today. What was going on at the end, ie pushing, shoving and security. A little NBA influence?

There was some discussion of the fact that Chelsea cheated, interfering with the goalkeeper, which facilitated the winning goal. Essentially, the keeper was being held, which kept what would have been an easy save from becoming a goal. The refs didn't see it, so the foul didn't happen.
But there's been bad blood between the teams since Mourinho accused Barca coach Rijkaard of "talking" to the referee after the last leg. Barca's defense has been suspect all year, and that Terry header just killed them. It pretty much broke my heart, too. I was pulling for them. The only consolation was that the best team in the tourney, Lyon, put the smack down on Werder Bremen, 7-2.
Further to Barca/Chelsea, Ronaldinho predicted that all the English teams would go out in this round. He certainly did his part with two goals, but when Eto'o missed the sitter, you sensed that this wasn't going to be their night. If you get a chance to see highlights, they will show Ronaldinho's second goal. It's a candidate for goal of the year in my book.
With seven matches in the last two weeks, you could see it in the legs of Barca's defenders, frankly. You would have thought that the La Liga folks would have reshuffled some of their matches.
Another good day tomorrow. I'll be sporting the Arsenal colors, though it doesn't look good for the Gunners. We'll see.
