Hi All,
Just wondering if any1 has any info at all on radar detectors downunder.
Just before I get flamed, I know they are illegal here but nevertheless.
I would love to hear from any1 who has a "mate who used one", any recommendations or suggestions?
I don't condone driving fast in school zones or in populated areas, but getting done for 3 km/hr over the limit has very little to do with road safety and lots to do with revenue rising.
So share some info if you can.
Models? Brands? Opinions
Cheers
Vlad

Buddy has a Valentine1, I have read reviews and it seems to be the best. It is very expensive, I think around $400 USD.

Thanks for the info.
How do I get my hands on one? Do you know of anyone who sells them?
If it saves you one speeding ticket and some points, it worth every penny.

He goes on to list the Escort 8500 X50 and Bel RX65 as the top rated followed by Valentine 1. Escort 8500 X50 is the cheapest at $299.95 (for red display).
I guess Escort now owns Bel so the two are pretty much the same.
Hope this helps. It helped me. I chose the Escort over the Valantine 1 based mainly on price.

Common, be serious. They are not going to jail you for using radar detector. It would get confiscated and I get fined but I doubt they would even take u to court.
The speed of my car is directly proportional to the speed of ur turbo upgrade. Hurry up and test it arleady

We are being serious lol, there is nothing really here (that we know of) that is legal except Road Angel which more or less just points out the fixed cameras and blackspots.

Dont you think something like that would get stopped at Customs?
maybe x-lead, i think its probabaly legal to buy, but illegal to use here (dont quote me on that) and is a hefty fine and confiscation if you get caught, which is quite easy, if you jam there radar wouldnt they know you are using such a device?
i think vladt should just stick to the speed limit!!!!!

Does anyone know where I could find the legislation relevant to radar dectors?? Also how would the police know u were using one if it only detects radar and doesnt jam it?? or do they have a radar detector detector??

Perhaps a radar detector, dectector, detector!
Seriously though, I drive around town sedately but on long country road trips and interstates drive normally sit on around 120. I am happy to take a fine risk and infact in 18 yearshave hardly ever been fined. Hopefully the 'flash' from other drivers still happens as that is a good 'detector'!
Otherwise US$400 for a risky detector seems a lot and you will have to save yourself a few fines before it even pays for itself. Also radar detectors are inefficient against lasers which are used exclusively in Victoria now for han held operations and also ka band radars.

I got my RX65 for $236.99 shipped. The place isn't authorized, but they've been around for years and offer a 3 year in-house replacement warranty, so I'm not too worried. Sometimes I miss not getting the arrows, but other times I LOVE how quiet this thing is...

Yo bro !S4 -
Tread lightly here, these area our Aussi and Kiwi brothers and sisters, and they have a distinctly different set of concerns. :)
It looks like for them, at least, the V1 might be the best choice to mimimize RDD hits...... Still, that's a risk I would be hesitant to take. :(

Hi Everyone,
We don't use a radar detector, but we do use a GPS based (and therefore legal) GPS Guardian that knows the GPS co-ordinates of all fixed speed cameras, school 40KM zones, red light cameras and also known spots that our friends in blue often set up their portable radars. It even knows NOT to warn you about school zones on weekends or outside of the school zone hours on week days and you can also flag your own personal areas for a warning if you wish. There are quite a few different models on the market now, but the better (and more expensive) models are quite good. I know it has it's limitations when compared to radar detectors, but in NSW if you get caught with a detector you loose your licence for 3 months for a first offence.
Hope this helps.
