View Full Version : Protein
So I have been on this high protein diet for the past couple days because i'm trying to gain some weight.
It's working out well..... but got dam have I got the worst smelling gas.
Is there anything I can eat with the protein to help neutralize the gas?
seriously... i'm stinking my self up in here....
I had to cancel a date tonight because I can't stop letting this noxious gas fly

My advice is to stop making your protein shakes from your own natural ingredients if you know what I mean.

Charcoal tablets, turns your shite black though
Isn't charcoal used to absorb toxins in the stomach?
I don't think they sell it OTC in teh states :(

Maybe you should try a different type of protein. What mix or whatever are you using at the moment and for what purpose? Are you just trying to gain weight or are you trying to get bigger?

I think he's using either PhilTshakes, or Ragizm brands

Whey protien for size/bigger.
I know it works, I used it before and gained 25 lbs. Fortunately I was single at the time.....
I use in combination with Creatine.

true, the heightizm shakes contain too much fruit to be high in protein :)

I would switch to Egg protein. Each protein is made up of an amino acid chain. The more complete the chain, the better it is for you because your body needs all parts of the chain to make it's own protein to build tissue. The best known source of protein (best defined as most complete amino acid chain) is egg protein. It's the top of the standard to which all other proteins are measured. So let's say that you have 10grams of whey and 10grams of egg protein. By weight they are the same, but the egg protein actually is better and will do more for you.
canned Tuna man. Each little can is stacked with protein.
Only 120 calories, but 30 grams of protein. 2 bucks.

Protein from poultry is a simple protein and not ideal for weight gain. Whey protein has been proven to be far more effecient then poultry protein.

Fish protein is second best to Whey protein. Unforntuanately I don not have a kitchen (my meals are all prepared by chefs) so the idea of having tuna in my suite is not appealing. I can however have a tuna sammich every day for lunch if I so choose :)
The protein that I am taking is formulated for body building and is waht is called "pre-digested proteins"
Basically it is protein that is broken down to a very fine level in order to absorb faster in your system.

Not even close. Protein from poultry is protein you get from eating chicken; egg protein is protein you get from eating eggs...it's two totally different sources of protein.

I'm a cross country and track runner for TCU. My athletic life is centered around recovering after a workout in time for the next workout. I eat eggs after every morning workout. In fact, I'm eating an omelet right now

I think he's talking about the larger cans of tuna. The smaller cans are about 99cents and only have 11 grams of protein and 50 calories.
He's right though, tuna is a great source of protein too. I do that for lunch sometimes on a sandwich with tomato soup to dunk in.

I guess I didn't expect someone with knowledge of protien to read that
yes, egg protein is good for you. I dont run track there for I am not burning a large amount of calories like you are. with the protein in eggs comes fat/cholesterol, and yes I am too lazy to remove the yolk. Egg protein is not nearly as effective as whey protein, I don't care what any study says.
Ask any body builder, Whey protein is the way to go.

:whore:^ gotta do the whey protein.
too many eggs a week is really unhealthy. What is the Health Board recommendation? 4 a week max?
If anyone is eating a couple eggs a day, it's not a good thing.
Don't eat too much tuna either. Too much mercury.

Wow? Really eggs are bad for me? I eat 3 full eggs and 3 eggs without yolk a day! 6 eggs per day.
I know tuna will make you crazy if you eat to much.
If I cant eat eggs, where i am I going to get my protein?

To answer the original question listed in post # 1....drink more water and try to use alternate forms of protein intake. Meaning, not just the protein shake stuff. Tuna, eggs, meat, some beans etc.

Beat me to it. When I was younger and going to the gym regularly tuna fish all day the day before a workout was like superman! Tuna FTW man!
"Creatine" Helps you pass drug tests.:) Do not use if you have heart problems or are a diabetic!

So you just mix the protein powder stuff in water? What does it taste like? It makes shakes or something?
From reading that I have done, some sources say that some protein powders aren't made as well as others.. denatured, undenatured, etc...
Depends... most Whey proteins you find at GNC (canada?) is all the same.
it's called pre-digested whet peptides.
Basically its Whey broken down to it's simpliest form for easier digestion.
Seb- just hit up a knowledgeabe staff member at GNC. Don't let them suck you in to their 'musty have multi-vits' story though... if you truly eat a healthy balanced diet, you don't need multi-vits. You'd just pee them out.
As for Go~Rilla: Dude, don't eat so many eggs a day! You'll die from an artery-clogged heart attack by 50.

I said "not just whey protein" meaning replace some of those grams of protein with somethign other then whey. You can get away with about 80-100 grams from shakes, bars etc. and the rest from subsidizing your diet with the items I mentioned.
80-100 grams of whey = farts

Rilla, this was the first website to pop up on google, when I typed in "recommended intake of eggs".
read up. http://food.ivillage.com/mainingredient/eggsdairy/0,,5x4,00.html
I thought this was common knowledge?
Well, maybe not... I had a public health nurse for a mother so I grew up on lots of health facts. The amount of pamphlets she gave to me as a teen was staggering.

BD, it sounds like you either have...
A) Lack of good Intestinal bacteria
B) Intaking to much protein at one time that your body cannot break down properly.
One solution is supplementing more Lactobacillus acidophilus (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lactobacillus_acidophilus) into your diet plan either once or twice a day to balance out the flora in your system . You can eat yogurt which contains Lactobacillus, but in your situation I would recommend taking OTC pills which you can find at any drug store.
FYI - It takes about 2 days before you start seeing results (less gas).;)

i just read this whole thread and not 1 person knows what they are talking about  whey protien is not the king of protiens. whey protien is a fast metabolizing protien. it's best to consume right after your work out has completed. whey protien has the same BV(biological value) as any other milk protien. you shouldn't take whey protien prior to bed, as it will completely metabolize with in 2 hours. casien protien should be taken prior to bed as it's metabolic rate last up to 8 hours. you should research BV of protiens to learn what's "best" example certain beef protiens have a BV of 120%. where as tofu has an average BV of 60-70. so 20g of tofu has about half the BV of beef. long story short. make natural foods your staple for protien and use the powders for what they're meant for.... supplements. take whey 2 hours prior to lifting and as soon as you finish. take a casien (milk) protien before bed. i have to ingest over 300g of protien daily. my food bill is insane

and to the op. up your carb intake to gain lbs. your body will piss out the extra amminos it can't use. find out your bmr (basal metabolic rate) this the amount of calories needed to sustain your current weight. add 500 calories daily to that rate. 3500 calories is a pound. 500 per day x 7= 1 lb per week. adust daily intake if you feel 1 lb/week is to much. this formula is also what sum1 should use to lose body fat.

+1 on the yogurt. Get the plain fat free large 2 pint sizes. It's cheaper. It may take two weeks to notice the diff. Also Papaya juice is good for digestion as well. Or just get the acidophilus liquid and add a spoonful to each shake. Go to Calorie-count.com to calculate your weight goals for gaining or loosing... Good luck.

o.k. canuck i will try and explain for you. being that whey can be digested within 2 hours, you would be starving your muscles for the remainder of your slumber. casein breaks down at a slower rate and keeps your muscles in a + nitrogen balance.
