Been working at a college for a few months. This is my last week.

Where most places you can get a sandwich and a drink for $7, here you can get a full meal (today I had Halibut with rice and veggies, other days I have had chicken, Lamb, etc...) for a mere $3 more.. We have a cook's training facility right on campus and all the food is essentially sold at cost.

Good quality, cheap and healthy.. I swear I have lost a couple of lbs too by moving my big meal to the middle of the day and eating less in the evening.

I know exactly what you mean.

I used to work at a head office with 1000+ people, and the cafeteria was really exceptional. Every day they had a full course meal (always was a nice cut of meat, green and starchy veggies.)
The chef loved to cook up full turkey dinners for lunch about once a month too!

The best part was everything in for about 7 bucks.

I gained about 15 lbs during my 3 years there. A nice combination of sitting at a desk job (without being help able to haul stuff around a warehouse like my previous Co.) having my metabolism naturally slow down, and teh wife having a baby which definitely hampered my exercise routine.

Wow our campus food in the cafeteria was generally terrible and ridiculously expensive. The foods building was great if you could get in there.

Oh and damn you guys I'm sitting here at noon smelling a co-workers lunch and now I'm even more hungry.

I have a Subway going in below my office in a couple months. I can't wait!

I eat there probably 3 times a week for lunch, and now I won't have to drive!
Maybe they'll let me behind the counter to make my own?

(Dare to dream)

When I had my store it was right next to a Quiznos.. had a buddy who worked there, let me behind the counter once to make my own.. big no-no of course

I used to work at a place that had a full gourmet buffet line with 3 soups, salads, exotic cheeses and 3 kinds of meat with at least 1 side each, plus a sandwich bar, and full bar with icecreams and other treats like that..

I liked it but.. I'd rather get paid more than provided a free meal. I can eat on the cheap and pocket the difference...I still miss that icecream machine tho..

now as far as college food goes.. my experience at my college was it was absurdly expensive, but it was all you could do if you wanted to keep your parking space.. otherwise you'd either be late for class or pay a $20 parking fine heh. I dont miss that place at all.

I will always remember eating Dormitory chicken that was fed on fish meal. It smelled (the whole cafeteria) and tasted like fish but looked like chicken or maybe pigeon.

Ew.. yeh.. no...

All the food here for the cooks training center comes from the same distributors that deliver to restaraunts, etc..

They didn't have the braised lamb ready when I got to the cafeteria, so I settled on chicken cordon bleu

I have a kick ass sushi place just across the street from my office.

Run 100% by Japanese locals. The chefs barely speak English and thats the way I like it. I practice my muddled Japanese with the owner too, which is fun.

It gets my vote for the best sushi in Richmond, and there is a lot to choose from.
A typical huge lunch feast at Ichiro's usually costs about $15.00, so it's not some place I go every day... but when I do, it's worth it!

my old cafeteria at PSU supposedly would add a little bit of laxatives to the food to keep ya regular...

but really about 3-5 mins after you ate all your food, your tummy would be-a-grumblin' and it would be a mad dash to beat the roomies to Mr. Crapper.
