I have a 2002 model Legacy B4 RSK and it has for the last year been having symtoms of poor running and very lumpen idle. I have an OBD2 diagnostic scanner and have tried plugging it into the OBD2 port. However the unit always fails to communicate with the car. I have tried a few others and it is always the same. Does anyone know what type of diagnostic unit the requires. I bought it in the UK but it is a japanese model. I simply assumed it was OBD2 compliant

Maybe your unit doesn't speak Japanese:D
I honestly don't know which unit you require, but I think you have a problem with mass MAF sensor. does your CE light come on?

Yes the CE light is on and it seems tu run very lean. Ironically when the problem ststed it was running rich and i had to remove the MAF sensor plug to get it to run at all. Are these cars not OBD2 compliant. The car seems not to communicate with any of the scanners i tried.
Cheers

what? you can just yank it out? but i think that's what your problem is. is there a subie dealer around? they might just be able to read the code for you
