Hi.
Could anyone please recommend a place in Melbourne where I can buy 18" wheels for my upcoming GT wagon?
I wonder if subaru has some type of original STI 18" wheels?

I'm moving this to the Australia section, where it belongs. As for STi 18" wheels, not unless you get the Rays Engineering ones. They aren't stock though.

Um, couldn't it be Melbourne, Fla?

I have a Suggestion for mags for the legacy Wagon :)
17 Inch Hyper Black Stilletos from Advanti Racing, they look absolutly fantastic

Will set you back only 1800.00% (nzd$) for a set of 5 (yes 5!!) Tyres Included (225/50/r17) fitting and balancing included..

From Mag and Turbo here in Christchurch NZ.... Perhaps you have a Mag n Turb store in aus?

vladt
01-31-2005, 06:54 AM
Thanks Lego_See.
I don't think we have Mag n Turb here in Melb, but I will do some research.
I do however, want 18" mags, something along 225x40x18. As long as I maintain 55mm offset I should be right!

Cheers

(took the photo off the front of the magazine :) but im also gonna go have a look at a wagon exact same model as mine (http://nuclearalien.no-ip.com/cars/pipelegacy.html) with the aforementioned mag wheels on it)

Available up to 19 inch xD

But um what did you mean by a 55mm offset?? the offset of what?

Kewl wheels. Really look good on the car! This weekend I am going to hunt arround Melbourne to see if I can get something similar. I would love to get a reputable brand like Rays Eng or Oz Racing but they might prove to be too expensive for my liking! Now the wheels offset is the distance from the centre of the wheel to the face of the bolting plate. You can choose any 18" size rim as long as the wheel offset distance is the same!

Donnellans the tyremen in oakleigh, see john, i got my prodrive rims from there, they can also get in ray eng., buddy club etc. wheels and have done a few libertys. They are very good there.

[NZ]Lego_See
02-02-2005, 06:13 AM
 I would have thought Advanti Racing was a reputable brand? *cries*

Anyway Rays engineering DO do a set thats similar but
the prongs or spokes dont come into the centre, they have a more flatter appearance and they pretty much look EXACTLY like the tarmac mags used on the 2004 WRC WRX impreza, but not white, either black chrome gunmetal silver or hyper black :)

Btw very stoaked you liked my suggestion for mags :D (The Advanti Stilletos xD) but if your not convinced about the company stature of Advanti racing, then just get the sorta similar set from rays

LMO, I am certain I saw your car at Chadstone few weeks ago. (Liberty with gold wheels).
From memory, you were on the lower ground floor car park loading something. I noticed the gold wheels! Do you live in Oakleigh area? Could you pls tell me how much did you spend on your wheels/tyres and what size did you get?
Will go to Donnellans on saturday!

Hey Lego, take it easy man! I don't have any probs with the reputation of the Advanti Racing , it' smore they availability locally here! I wouldn't mail order the wheels since I would really like to see them "live" prior to putting them on my car. I priced some Rays Eng wheels today and looks like for a good set + tyres I would be looking in the vicinity of 6k! That's fair bit more than I wanted to spend!
Anyway, how long u had the 91 GT for? Any plans on upgrading to the new one?

[NZ]Lego_See
02-02-2005, 07:26 AM
I'm sorry :( i didn't mean nor intend on sounding angry in anyway! there are just ways to type things in chat, and ways to say things in speech that you cant use chat for =\

I've had my Suby wagon for just over 3 months now, its in immaculate condition, has never been crashed nor otherwise (apart from some very very hard to see minor dents down the left hand side).
I did its regular 5000km oil change + engineflush just 800 kms ago and used 100% synthetic oil, as i were told its best to :)
Um as for upgrading to the next generation or the next model..

uugghh its out of the question *cries* i could really only just afford to get this one, as my last car was set fire to outside of my own home when it was parked on the street *more cries*
so out of desperation for transport to get to work, i set about getting a bank loan to buy this fine suby, didnt take me long to find it

[NZ]Lego_See
02-02-2005, 06:17 PM
http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/~1amiga/rays.htm damn its easy to find people in christchurch who have a suby with nice mags :D

vladt
02-03-2005, 05:53 AM
Hey, you made the right choice! I am sure you will enjoy your suby for many years to come! I am getting mine also on full finance. I figured if I wait until I can afford one outright, I will be 60 by than! I am still tossing and turning about wagon or sedan! I put a deposit down for a wagon ( I like slick low look of it) but sometime I think the sedan should be the way to go! I really don't have a particular need for a wagon, but who knows!!! Since I have to wait 2 month for my car, I guess I can still change my mind, but should I?!
Anyway, nice rays on the suby btw.. How could people afford Rays wheels is beyond me. They are bloody expensive in Melbourne.

[NZ]Lego_See
02-03-2005, 11:27 AM
Well i got my wagon with a few things in mind at the time. I've got a 18 inch sub to load into the boot :D so the purpose of getting a wagon was the audio install i suppose :)

Wagons sound fantasic for audio spesh when you like your bass deep hard and relentless xD :D.
I picked up this 150WRMS 18inch sub and cabinet for a cool 450.00$ about 3 years ago now..... damn i get soo off topic in forum threads

[NZ]Lego_See
02-03-2005, 11:31 AM
In regards to you choosing wether to get a wagon or not, is up to what kinda of lifestyle you have..

If your a car audio fanatic - or you tend to move house alot -or if you have a family xD - or you do a fair bit of camping \ outdoorsy kinda of life then = Wagon

If your a performance nut - or dont need the acres of boot space a wagon provides =
Sedan :)

But IMO, wagons look a lot LOT more staunch when lowered on some phat rims :)

vladt
02-06-2005, 04:44 PM
I couldn't agree with you more! If you put legacy sedan right next to camry, the rear end looks almost identical. I have seen LMO's wagon on the road few times ( I think he lives in my area). Anyway, with his gold rims and a tint it looks awesome! So I am sticking with the wagon! I used to be the audio fan! In my old 1990 celica, I had 12" Kicker solabaric, focal speakers, two kicker Z360 amps, alpine head unit. It was awesome (but very expensive).
Since I sold the celica I don't have anymore cash to spend on such fun! Well, the LGT comes with 13speaker McIntosh system which sounds awesome!
Now, give me some of those "phat rims"...

Hey Vladt,

thanks for the nice comments, yes that was me at chadstone loading pram into back. I actually live in Sandringham, but get over to chaddy once a week! Did you go to Donnellans?

My wheels are pordrive 18x8 w/ bridgestone so3's cost about 5 grand i think, could of saved a little bit by using falken tyres etc. but trying to use the best i can afford on this ride, just ordered some sti seats from japan and sti boost gauge cant wait till they arrive!

(might have to change my spot at chaddy now!!)

Have you decided on rims and how are you lowering your car? or have you already?

vladt
02-06-2005, 06:25 PM
Hi LMO, (what's your real name?)

It's nice to finally find a real Liberty enthusiast like urself to talk to!

Yea I saw you in Chaddy (I couldn't overlook an awesome, slick looking suby with gold wheels). Than you overtook me going down Poath rd. You wouldn't believe if I told you, that right at that moment I was about to put down a deposit on a new liberty gt, and I was in the middle of deciding weather or not to get sedan or wagon. Seeing you car right at that moment made up my mind. I went and put down deposit on the wagon! The wagon just looks so much slicker and better than sedan.

Although I really don't need a wagon, since my Mrs has 2004 outback which we bought for her last year (to load the pram and other baby stuff in!) (sedan looks like camry from the back!) Anyway, I put down deposit at Subaru Lilydale after much negotiating! However my ride isn't coming till end of March so I am just preparing and doing research about all the aftermarket mods I am going to do to my suby!

I did some research about prodrive mags you got (WRC1?)and actually they are made by Oz-Racing for prodrive (or so they website says). Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go to Donnellans last weekend due to work commitments. But next weekend should be fine! All I really need to do is to put down some deposit on the mags and wait till my car arrives! 5k that's u paid is not cheap, since you could buy much cheaper mags, but I want good quality reputable brand mags, and rays eng, prodrive, oz racing are it!

However there are lots of replica's on the market, so you have to be careful to get what you paid for! Is there a serial number on your mags? I am doing some research into lowering the car as well. Friend of mine going to Japan on the 9th of Feb for 5 weeks. So I am going to get him to bring down an STI lowering kit made for Liberty! If you go to legacy jap site, they catalogue of accessories is enormous.

Where did you order STI seats and boost gauge from? Why did you go for a wagon? (is it only coze of the pram and baby stuff?)

Hope to hear from you soon
Cheers
Vlad

Vlad,

How big is your friends bag!!
that is the best way to get parts, i have some tuning mags. from japan full of parts and bodykits etc if you want to have a look, its full of wagons.

Also have a brand new cat back fujitsubo exhaust on way that i'm selling if your interested?
Did you go for man. or auto?

We decided on the wagon because like you said it looks the best (sorry sedan owner of the world!)

Are you getting the adjustable susp. or the pink springs?

cheers,

Luke

vladt
02-06-2005, 07:50 PM
Haha, Well this friend of mine gets send to Jap quite often! I spoken to him about getting him to buy some stuff. Depends on how much I order, he might just post it from there and not carry it with him!
What exactly are you after?
We should meet up and have a look at your mags, we might choose something worthwhile.
I got a manual (common! it's a performance car).
Unfortunately adjustable susp will prove to be bit too expensive and although worth every penny will only be necessary if I take the car to the track (which I am not planning on doing right at this moment yet)
What are you doing for exhaust? I think the subaru headers are extremely well tuned (lenght and volume) for the engine. If you are going to replace, you would need to get a new ECU to get it running properly and have it dynotuned! Turbos are very sensitive to the exhaust fuel/air mix ratio's so gotta be careful.

Vlad

LMO
02-06-2005, 08:05 PM
yes your right, ive done intercooler and intake aswell, getting ecutek done tommorrow has to be tuned once you start playing, will be interesting to see what results i get.

im not changing header as you said they are already tuned length, ive just changed the mufflers to the sti genome ones from parts catalogue, give it a nice note, but really wont give me that much performance i dont think.

check out rinkya.com they will let you bid on yahoo japan, you might be surprised and get adjustable susp. for the same price as springs( gotta make sure there newish though) they do charge a commission though, so you gotta get stuff resonably cheap to make it worth while.

Would love to catch up, theres a few little sti bits im sure we would love to have! eg sti pedal set or sti nuts ( have you seen how much sti docklands try to charge for this stuff!)

I can think of plenty of stuff vlad, believe me!l

You definitely know your tuning mate! I would absolutely love to catch up and see what you have done to your car! You will end up with the most tuned liberty in Melbourne!
Lets get together and pick some sti pedals, sti nuts and few other (not too large bits) than my friend can buy us two sets and bring it with him. Not sure how much they cost in jap, but should be hell lot cheaper than rip off prices at docklands!
Can't wait to see your dyno chart!
Are you available on weekend?

Cheers
Vlad

LMO
02-06-2005, 08:44 PM
Lets do it, weekend is good for me. Stuff from subaru catalogue is roughly half price of that at docklands, dont know how they will sell anything, they must think poeple are stupid.

Since i installed top mount i think liberty is running an extra psi of boost (and it feels good!) so it is a must that it is tuned asap

Luke

vladt
02-06-2005, 09:22 PM
Kewl, will give you a buzz on saturday (after I visit Donnellans) and will arrange the time and place!
Who does all your tuning work for you? surely not docklands?
What other bits are you after?
Got any interesting links?

LMO
02-06-2005, 09:41 PM
Amberley autos in dandenong, will tune this time, as they have done libertys before, docklands have no idea on how or where to tune libertys, we know more than them!!
Believe me, if i had a dyno and a little bit more knowledge, id do it myself. Tuning is really the only thing that has to be done by a proffessional. I looked at using AVO as they have a stage 1 kit in japan, but i dont want a piggyback comp.
hmmm... what else do i want.................... STI front under spoiler looks very nice( but sure to leave plastic behind on steep driveways!) i dont mind the eyelids either, HID bulbs would be nice (not the brightest headlights in the world) what i really want is the sti gauge cluster that goes in the cubby above the clock, looks awesome, im sure youve seen it in catalogue, about $1500 though.

Nothing is cheap especially if it comes out from Jap, but it's all fairly high quality. I have seen the cluster and it would be awesome! Does liberty have wiring for it already, or would it need to be specially wired up?
I like the spoilers and other bits, but I don't want to have "in your face" car! I like it to be a sleeper with a hint of menice!
To pick the right tuner is important! I used to race bikes and had tuning done on monthly basis. It makes hell of a difference to the power delivery and overall engine performance.
Btw, what's your warranty take on all the modes u done? surely that must void the factory warranty? when we meet on saturday please bring your catalogues that you have. Would be nice to browse!
Cheers

Thanks for the links!
Haha, I supposed to be working right now! But fat chance now! The problem that I found with tuning is that it is a never ending road. I have done few projects in the past with my bikes and after spending thousands (10's of thousands) I always wanted more! If I take the same road with liberty, my wife will divorce me! (hmm, may be I should do it!) I have a young kid now, so I really can't afford to throw 20k on the car to make it handle, brake, accelerate better! However wheels, tyres and few other bits are must haves. Oh damn, may be I just do few things for now on and than just follow your example...................................
Can't fight myself!

Vlad

LMO
02-06-2005, 11:39 PM
believe it or not, i to have done other projects to and spents thousands and your right there is no end, but dont fight it vlad!! i have another kid on the way due end of april, that should balance the weight a little better over the back wheels!!

Did i mention to you vlad that this is my wifes car? She love's it, but i want to drive it all the time now.

I think you've got the right idea though, keep it simple, wheels, susp., a few sti bits that is all thats really needed.

who am i kidding!!

brembos would be nice to and the standard rotors are no good and......................

LMO
02-06-2005, 11:45 PM
I'll bring catalogues on sat. for sure, as for the warranty i dont think i have one anymore! I have tried to keep things subaru, but as they are not sold locally i doubt my warranty would hold especially after ecutek topmount etc.

vladt
02-07-2005, 07:03 AM
I can't believe this is your wife's ride! You must be in love! Is the car auto?
I am not going to fight myself this time around, so the wheels are first on shopping list (I like GC-010E (http://www.prodrive-japan.com/products/gc_010e_forged/) in British gold. Should go nicely with the black liberty. The only problem is Donnellans doesn't have them listed on their website. I just hope that they don't update their website often enough to list all models.
Than few STI bits (whatever my friend can bring from Japan, just spoke to him and he is leaving 21of of Feb for Tokyo and coming back in 5-6 weeks)
The rest of the modes will depend on how I drive the car! If I am going to do some track days and some spirited driving on the weekend up at the Reefton or Black spur, I would get better suspension and brembo's. The extra power would be the last thing on my shopping list. But as they say, it is never enough. So the time will tell!
Does any1 else in Melbourne sell prodrive? Did you shop around?

LMO
02-07-2005, 02:36 PM
no its manual, my wife hates autos!
Dont worry about what donnellans has and doenst have on website, it doesnt get updated and they can get any wheel you want, john has got all the catalogues down there and the prodrive one shows ALL the different styles.
Dont know if anyone else sells prodrive, there is not many places in melb. that sell jap wheels, but john always looks after me, he always give discounts on the tyres fitting etc. and i trust they wont damage my car down there which is an important factor to me when choosing these places.
GC010E is very nice and would look awesome on black (and you'd be the only one in aus with them!)

[NZ]Lego_See
02-07-2005, 03:56 PM
You have a very... err how to say it...... uuum talented wife there lmo :D
Maybe female drivers in NZ here need to take a page out of your wifes testosteronity towards driving a manual :)
Also vladt, quite common mags those are, they look damn secksi but have a look at the british black set as well as i have this ultimate 'look' inmind.
With mine the mags will be black with some low prof p-zero directional tyres on em with the logos on the sidewalls painted white... if you hang around these forums long enough for me to have this done then you will see my 'ultimate look' *grin*

vladt
02-07-2005, 05:00 PM
So LMO, you think I might be able to get some type of a discount if I saw John at Donnellans and mentioned your name? Those prodrives are not cheap but definitely good quality stuff! Do you think black & gold is the best combo? or would you go silver and gold? I know gold looks great with your white!

Did you get much of a discount on the wheels? Or did you get discount on the entire package? I haven't done much tyre research but I'd imagine you have. Can you please post the specs / sizes of ur wheels/tyres so you can save me some time.. (:D) sorry for being lazy, but I do trust your judgement!
You did bring up a very important point>>>TRUSTING AHYONE NOT TO DAMAGE YOUR CAR. To be honest I am fed up with "don't care" attitude that is so prevalent in lots of car/bike places. If you would like to read what happened few month ago at Subaru Mentone (when I took my wife's outback for a first service, please see the link below). I won't go into details here!

Now, MR Lego_Sex, I wonder what were you implying in your last post? Wouldn't your wife be very nice to you if you bought her the white LGT with tonnes of accessories? Although mine still hasn't shown me much affection after I spent 50k on her outback! Women---are soo ungratefull! Can't wait to see ur ultimate looking wagon! (I don't like having side walls painted, coze it stands out too much!) I like slick, sleeper look, not 100% in ur face look!

Yes John will definaetly give you a discount if you mention me, spent over 20k on wheels there in last few years!

He'll probably take a bit off rims but more off the tyres i'd say. I think the black/gold combo will look just as good as white/gold for sure.
I'll try to find some pics in mag and send to you.

Lego_see, yes hyper black does look good also on a black car and a bonus is you cant see the brake dust!!

Vlad, wheel specs: PRODRIVE GCO7C 18"X8 TYRES BRIDGESTONE S03 225/40/R18
I think the offset is 51

Normally you go 18x7.5 but they had these in the country and they fit perfect.

vladt
02-07-2005, 07:00 PM
Thanks for that LMO.
Well we can do one better, if you would have time, when we meet up on Saturday, we both can pop in to Donnellans!
btw, from my calc's the offset must be maintaned at 55 if you want to get correct speedo reading and correct contact patch with the ground?
If they don't have stock, what's the delivery time?
Do you think gun metal grey(or silver) would look better on black than british gold?
When I go to Donnellans on saturday, I want to know exactly what I am going to be asking for! Do they have any display stock?

LMO
02-07-2005, 07:21 PM
no problem, well both go there. i'm not sure on the offset, car is getting tuned so i cant look at rim, your right though. A guy in sydney is the distributor for them so he's the one that MIGHT have stock, if not it can take a month to come from japan (better order soon!!!)

I think im leaning towards the gun metal grey/silver i think it would give a black wag like yours that sleek sleeperish look your after i was originally trying to pursuede my wife to go with the gunmetal color, but with white the gold is definately best option. John has done lots of suburus before and a few libertys aswell so he wont steer you down the wrong path in terms of offset etc.

They have a few wheels on display, not the one your after though i dont think, it is always nice to see what the rim looks like on the car, but when you check out the mag i keep talking about it has a rim section with lots of different styles modeled on sedan and wagon to look at

Don't say another word and more importantly never take me for a spin! I wouldnt' want something that I haven't experienced! If you do, I will give you mobile to my wife and let you deal with her!
But seriously, how quick is quick? I mean, "oh man it's quick" or is it more like "words can't describe and only smile on your face gives away the adrenalin rush you just experienced?"

It's not gtr skyline quick, dont get me wrong, but it is a good improvent over stock, i would like another 40kw but the only way to do this is by changing turbo, twin scroll stardard turbo is quite small and very limited. (dont think this is needed for family car)

I would like to know the standard kw's atw standard, because as sonn as i did intercooler car was running more boost, thus reducing kw gain results i think, i'll show you dyno chart on sat. there is gains right across the chart.

Hahaha, "don't think this is needed for family car", who are you kidding mate?:p You not doing all the modes with the family in mind! I can't wait to see your dyno chart and compare price vs. performance ratio. There are plenty more things you can do to the liberty, but personally I would rather spend money on brakes, suspension and tyres before I spend anything on extra power. Saying that, my plan is to first of all, buy a set of wheels.tyres, put in a different ECU, full exhaust system (including genome type mufflers) and Brembo calipers with braded brake lines. After that, I will re-examine my budget. For now I can't wait to take delivery of the new car. I might not see it till late March (Vlad is crying here)
Thanks heaps for the muffler link. I am going to check and monitor the price. However I am not sure if I would be saving much after adding postage and commission. I would prefer to buy it locally and pay the extra premium. This way I would also get a brand new set.
Now, what's your next mode is going to be? Still more power or some handling ?

By the way, I reckon this would suit family car perfectly!

Well my equation looks about similar, but wife also figures in this quite strongly. So it's more like wife, wife, house, car, wife, wife, wife, car...
so car it is....
on a serious note, where did u get ur genomes from? do u know any1 who does brembos?

i got my genomes from japan, off yahoo and saved about $600, if you want a new set japanparts is about your only option, sti docklands will not get them for you, same goes for gauges etc. anything remotely interesting they dont have! sti does do a brembo kit for the liberty http://www.subaru-sti.co.jp/parts/blbp_legacy/cat2.html

but at about $7,500! @#@# The rotors are the main prob. on the liberty and a few on the forum including myself on out last liberty had to have them machined after about 4000 k's

on a serious note, next mod is happening tommorrow, its a major one, titanium sti gearknob has landed in melb along my my hyper rev mags. should keep me busy for 2 seconds.

Just checked the gear knob I ordered and it's actually this:
http://subaru.com.au/explore/liberty/accessorydetail.asp?item=23472&accessory=18996

Shall I change it to titanium STI like u getting? Also decided to bid on those genomes. Are there anymore of those available currently? How often do they come up?

change it to this one vlad, http://sti.subaru.com.au/SportsPartsSearchResults.asp its the swrt titanium one i got in mail today, there are other genome mufflers on there, maybe one or two others, check this link but you have to look through all 34 pages to find them!!!
http://www.rinkya.com/twview.pl?URL=http://search1.auctions.yahoo.co.jp/search?sb=desc&desc=STi&auccat=26318&acc=jp&f=0x12&alocale=0jp&mode=1

At 20000 yen they are a steal believe me, others usually go from between 60 and 80000 yen (80000 being near new) there is usually at least one pair on there, i also saw the different style (twin tip) sti mufflers on there also (dont bid against me on my pedals!!!!!) You'll also find pedal sets and other stuff aswell. type in BP5 as a search to, i requested it be added as a search and they obliged BP5 is the code for our liberty WAGON BL5 is sedan (have to be carefull when looking at exhausts, susp etc. to make sure it for BP5

Vlad, did you check out those ohlins shocks?

vladt

Did I check those Ohlins, O'shit I did.
They are about 2.6k AUD, so probably 3.5k at my door?
What do you think? How well do Ohlins rate in car market?
Should I or shouldn't I? I am not in any rush but how often do new shocks come up? I definitely won't buy any 2nd hand. I spoken to Mark again on saturday and he will find out if he can get STI Genomes & Tiani shocks for me!
