From what I've gathered, these will replace the WR. http://www.nokiantyres.com/passengercars_product_en?product=10226843&name=Nokian+WR+G2
Any tires guys know more about these?

I bet that is an incredible tire. It looks more like the Hankook Icebear which is a great tire. We have the old WR on our Honda minivan and it is super nice in the rain/snow...which I guess we will be seeing a little snow today. I would assume that Nokian is not taking a step backward so that is probably a sweet ride.

I may get these - I had WRs on two cars and they were very good. This one should be even better for dry roads and still hold it well on snow.

I called a dealer by me. $189 installed each and it takes a week to get from their supplier.

Give Meadow Creek tires a call, they are up in Denver at Colorado Blvd. They are the mountain west distributer for Nokian tires. There is also a list of local dealers on their website that carry Nokian tires. I got my WR's from them.

I hope they are as well balanced as the WRs across dry, wet, and snow. That is, I hope they do not improve snow performance at the risk of reducing dry performance. I love the WRs because they are a ball to run in the dry - and have excellent performance in the snow as well. I took my GY F1s off already (early I know but it was convenient) and I do not regret it a bit. I've had a ball running the car with the WRs...even with temps in the 80s. Terrific tire.

They don't look like they will handle standing water as well...

Looks a lot like the Hankook tire. I know many people who love the hankook and it always does well in testing. I bet this WR kicks ass just like the old WR...but better.

it seems superior to the WR in almost every way.

To me, the WR looks like has bigger channels and a more direct path from the center to the outside..

Oh well, what do I know?

For what size? 205/50/17, 215/45/17, or 225/45/17?

the old WR's were second only to Goodyear F1's IMHO. I've owned many tires over the years and the WR's made RE92's seem like slicks in standing water.

as good as WR's are, the dry performance for me was subpar. I ran them on our MINI cabrio....still too much wheelspin in the white stuff and in summer, it makes driving less fun.

I have both GY F1s and WRs. I personally think WRs have edge over F1s in wet. In dry they have like 80% performance of F1s. Indeed I think in snow they disappoint a bit, although I have never driven a car with true snow tires. However I expected better traction. Anyway, I think WRs are still incredible do-it-all tires.

EDIT: not that GY F1s are the end of the world. In fact they are subpar to RE070 in both dry and wet traction, however RE070s are of no use in deep water....

Wow! I wonder if I got a bad set then. The sidewalls seem really soft to me. I had them on all of last winter and well into the spring. I put my RE92's back on so I could kill them off this summer and they felt quite a bit stiffer. Just more responsive to turning inputs.

I like the look of these new WR's as well. Guess I'll have to wait until I wear out these older one's. Should be in about 20 years!   ;)

Cheers!

It might also depend on the load rating of the tires... I know us Outback owners have stiffer sidewalls on the WR's because of the size/weight rating of the tire... air pressure makes a big difference, even just a couple of psi over the Subaru recommended 32...

The place I used to get my WRs from before said the new WR won't be available until late this year at best. Place is Hamel's Tire in Cumberland, RI.

Just got the low down. GREAT NEWS Nokian WR G2 available for less than $194 a tire mounted, balanced, new valve stem (if necessary.. in NH. But we need 5 more people willing to get a set to get a sweet price! Anyone interested?!?

They quoted me at $175 + tax per tire if I just needed the tires or $203 out of the door (that is mounted, balanced, put on car and old tires taken care of).

Nice place to deal with btw, I only had good experience with them.

EDIT: just looked into my notes and the quote above was actually for WRs. They said WR G2s would be approximately $10-$15 more per tire; but again, they wouldn't have them until the end of year.

I believe I was asking for quote for 215/45/R17 - same as OEM RE92s.

Waukegan has WR G2 225/45/17 in stock for $185 shipped.

Hmmm, need a set for LGT #2. Narrowed down choice to:

Dunlop 3D
Nokian RSI
Nokian WR G2

Decisions, decisions...

I would really want to go with something more snow oriented, but I am afraid RSIs might be too marshmallowy.

unclemat, I think RSI are overkill. I drove for 2 years on WRs in Rhode Island which isn't that much better than MA in winter and never felt I need more snow handling power than WRs provide. Plus, WRs are adequate at dry pavements while RSI are, as you said, too soft. IMO, ofcourse.

^ Yeah, that's what I think. I already have set of WRs for LGT #1, so want to try something else. I think I am getting closer to decide on Dunlops 3D. Some comments about poor slush traction worry me though.

Can't comment on Dunlops yet as I am still waiting for my rims to be shipped  Tires are sitting in the garage though. They are WIDE so I am worried that sluggishness may be coming from there rather than from thread/etc.

Time will tell. A coworker of mine has D2s on his Mini and he's been happy for 2 years now. D3 are supposedly better, at least on theory.

I believe that canola oil (softer) is used in the RSi while petroleum oil (harder) is used in the WR. I have experience with the Hakka 2's (also petroleum based). You might think these are overkill in our regions, but I felt really comfortable and safe on these. I thought the performance was great, although I'm not an aggressive drive (but I am spirited!).
